Out of bounds missed call

I am not going to worry about this call. There was no way in that situation a ref was going to make that call. IMO, the roles could have been reversed at the LNC and the ref still keeps his whistle quiet.

If you make just one free throw at the end of regulation we are not even worried about this call. Expect Buddy and Jordan it feels like this team misses some crucial free throws at times, especially the first of a 1-1.

I don't think the ref had to necessarily make a "call" that would result in free throws for OU. Just blow the whistle, warn Mason to obey his clear instructions, reset the play, and give OU a legal and fair shot to in bound for a chance at a game winning bucket. I've seen refs do this all the time and it would have been a completely fair solution in the circumstances.

I completely agree that there were things OU could have done to win the game in other ways. But in that crucial instance, the refs let KU get away with whatever the f they wanted like they have time after time after time before. It gets really old.

Let's keep it real - officiating did not determine the outcome of this game. We had several opportunities to end it, and we couldn't get it done. It's that simple.

I didn't count the number of fouls called during the OT periods.

I did. KU got 13 free throw attempts in the final OT (7 fouls called). OU got zero.

I don't blame the officials but they made it easier on KU in that final OT than OU and I don't see how anyone can argue with that.

It wasn't just that call. Ellis traveled.

I thought he did too from my couch, so went back and watched the play again today and noticed something I didn't last night. The ball on the rebound is bouncing around, rolls of Spangler's back/shoulder and Ellis fully possesses it right before he hits the floor on his back. Technically that isn't a travel since he never possessed it initially while standing. Now the common response is "well he slid!", and actually, that doesn't constitute a travel either. A player can slide with the ball until his momentum from the fall/dive stops. So as long as Ellis stays on his back (which he did) then he is fine.

Woodard traveled the possession or two before when he dished to Lattin, but they played on. No one's talking about that.

Where did OU and KU take their shots in the final OT? Haven't seen a spray chart but I bet the answer lies there.

Sky, as I said, there were questionable calls and no calls throughout the game, just not nearly as many as we typically see when OU is on the road. I didn't count the number of fouls called during the OT periods. I take your word for it. You have to admit that what we saw in the closing minutes of that game are more the norm throughout most games on the road, especially in Allen Fieldhouse.

But, IMHO, the game was called fairly overall. KU was the victim of a few calls that didn't go their way either. What I'm trying to say, is that I am not going to allow a few questionable calls or no calls to destroy the pride I feel in our players. That's it, nothing more.

At the end of regulation, I had absolutely no problem with the officiating, and that's the honest truth. I was thrilled and surprised it had not followed the usual path it follows in Lawrence.

But overtime -- especially the third OT -- was a whole other story, and I'm sorry, comparing a call or two in the first half to very calls (and non-calls) in the third overtime is apples and oranges. You can indeed trust me on the numbers: 9 fouls to 2 in the overtime periods, and several questionable calls that aren't reflected in the stat line.

As for the inbounds play, this isn't just ol' "Blame It on the Refs" skyvue talking (I know my rep); it's virtually every national observer I've heard comment on the game (and I was up till all hours last night -- I heard a bunch of them). They all agreed that last call had to be made -- especially after Mason acknowledged he was told to back off but did not.

And it's because of the pride I feel in our players that I'm so angry. I'm sick to death of KU getting bailed out game after game after game. Every fan in the Big 12 knows it happens there, and at a rate that exceeds typical "home cooking." I can't be happy about a moral victory this time. Our guys deserved to win, and in the third overtime, the officials had a HUGE impact on the outcome of the game.

The refs were as balanced as I have ever witness at AF.

The last play is tough because of the way AF is set up. As a coach you tell your passer to back up from the line to create space. You can't do that there. I believe this is why in the NBA they tell the guy he has to back up, however it might be a rule at that level that they do not have at the college level. I don't know the rule differences that well to know.

Mason acknowledged after the game that the official told him he had to back up. He just refused to do it, and the ref didn't enforce it with either a foul call or a stoppage of play to make him back up.

The refs were balanced all night I thought. They definitely blew that call at the end, but they also blew the non-call on the drive to the basket at the end of regulation.

We're going to obliterate them in Norman. Without the help of intimidated refs. :OU-logo:

I am sick of refs conveniently swallowing their whistles at KU when it's crunch time, but that's why it's good to be home I guess.

It wouldn't be bad if they swallowed the whistle on both ends. 13 free throw attempts in the third OT to zero. That is 7 fouls called on OU or more than one per minute. Some of them were legitimate but no calls on the other end is ridiculous.

13 free throws to zero in third OT. Seven fouls to zero.

They were balanced all night, it's true -- until it really mattered in the third OT.

Lattin travels, KU player falls to the floor, no travel. KU player steps on the boundary, no call. Ellis takes Woodard's legs out from under him, no call and then goes to the other end and gets a touch foul in his favor. OU player gets his legs taken out from under him on the defensive end after a steal, no call. All of Buddy's drive's to the basket no call.

The officials are not the reason OU lost but they sure had a lot to do with KU winning. KU got virtually all of its points in the final OT from the free throw line.

That occurred Saturday in Iowa state game. I don't think it was warning the guy to back up but the ref gave ball to the in bounder blew the whistle to start play then blew dead before the inbound and said something to the players and then gave ball back to the in bounder with no calls. May have been some jawing going on. Same concept though.

The missed call was mentioned by several outlets. Scott Van Pelt mentioned in in sportscenter right after the game. Gotlieb tweeted it. Baron Davis tweeted it. Bleacher report showed pictures.

So its out there that people have seen it. Reporters have also committed on Mason saying he is coached that way and that he knew the ref would not call it. Bet this becomes a point of emphasis for the rest of season at Fog Allen.

It definitely should given the configuration of their side out of bounds.
