WACO, Texas (AP) - Baylor freshman standout Perry Jones is staying in school.

Long expected to be the Bears' first one-and-done player, Jones instead Monday said he was returning to Baylor for his sophomore season.

The 6-foot-11 forward was the Bears' highest-rated recruit and played up to the expectations. He averaged 13.9 points and 7.2 rebounds while starting 30 games, a Baylor freshman record.

Jones will miss the first five games next season as part of an NCAA suspension for accepting improper benefits before he enrolled at Baylor.

An NCAA reinstatement committee last month upheld an earlier ruling that declared him ineligible for Baylor's Big 12 tournament opener that the team lost to Oklahoma, ending the season for the Bears (18-13).

very nice

good to see someone make that choice

He is making more money at Baylor anyway.

haha.

Wow, what a terrible decision. He is a guaranteed lottery pick. He has nothing to prove at Baylor.

Hopefully he doesn't blow his knee out or something.

I thought he would be done at Baylor because of eligibility issues.

Jones isn't playing meaningful minutes at the four position in the NBA for three or years anyways, he's rail thin and not a physical player to begin with. He would get abused in the NBA right now or next year.

Maybe he likes school? Maybe he has something to prove? Who knows, whatever the reason I think it's a good choice for him to return.

when they're not physically ready then I don't think it's a horrid decision.

It is if you will still go in the lottery, and he would develop better in the NBA working with professionals 24/7 as opposed to working with Scott Drew and going class and church in Waco 24/7.

Interesting move. He was ready physically but is/was unpolished. He also has Randy Moss-syndrome (playing half-assed).

Dude, he isn't close to ready physically. Athletically, maybe, but not physically.

He needs to add at least 20 pounds before he even thinks about defending and rebounding in the NBA.

235-240 is plenty physical for a 6'11 guy...

LaMarcus Aldridge - 6'11 240
Dwight Howard - 6'11 265

Which guy would you compare Jones to?

When was the NCAA investigation over? I thought he was still ineligible.

you can't compare it as a straight weight. for example Howard's 265 is distributed COMPLETLY DIFFERENT than most other players' 265.

Not every decision is about money.

The NBA and its money will be there, whether he goes now or three years from now (and even if he gets injured). As soon as he takes that step, he's leaving behind forever the opportunity to really just be a kid. In the NBA, it's a career working alongside grown men. In college, you're a kid hanging out and playing a game you love with your friends. You can't ever really go back once you take that step forward.

When I get mad reading the story, that means it's probably a good decision. Congrats on making a good decision Perry.
