when we hire Shaka he'll be a bit of a celebrity after his run and with his author-wife and background and "likeability".

we could use some of that good karma. I remember Kelvin working with a bit of that his first year and we had some really nice efforts...including that nice win over Kansas at home when they hit #1.

Plus, it looks to me like he does pretty well with lower level recruits ... which is something OU desperately needs.

yep. most definitely. they do a lot of damage taking offenses out of their comfort zone even if they don't get a turnover.

watch him celebrating with his players after the games they won. Those kids love him to death. You can tell they'd attack a freight train for him. THIS is what makes a recruiter.

Considering Smart spent 4 years as an assistant at Clemson and UF before becoming the HC at VCU I'd say his resume is markedly better then Capel's was at this point.

He's been a part of a big program and likely will have a much better idea on how to handle the duties that are required. Something our predecessor lacked which showed itself over and over the last 2 nightmare years we called basketball seasons.

Same thing was said about Capel, because he related to the players...he was young and listened to Jay-Z, same music as the recruits today, etc...had no recruiting ties to the region and look what that brought us...open your eyes
