Portal thread #1

Okay, so I started making a new thread with a chart, etc....and my dumbass lost it all. Starting over. Yay. Complete newb.

------

Now that South Dakota State's season is over, I have my eye on this kid for the second offseason in a row. He's a kid OU had conversations with last year and he's been put on Trilly's potential portal(ers) list. Hypothetically, he'd step onto OU's campus and become instantly their best player (duh). Plays bigger than 6'4.

That said, he is from Lawrence...so you could see Kansas possibly getting involved as well.

This kid stuck out to me as well, watching that game yesterday. I'd take him in a minute. I did notice that he's from Lawrence, Kansas. I wonder if Self would try and pluck him as well if he entered?? I mean, he averaged 19 ppg and 6 rebs. Very solid numbers.

Another kid OU liked (a couple of years ago now).

I would hope/think they'd pass this time around.

Three years, three schools. I just know he was one of those kids playing on 2 AAU teams in the same tournament.

I don't know what it says about Moser and his player evaluation, but a lot of kids were pursued and either missed on or moved on from really didn't pan out where they ended up. Would probably have to know more about the recruitment to form an opinion, but interesting none-the-less.

I think that happens to all of them when talking about if a coach hit or missed on a guy. Nic Timberlake was supposed to be a lights out shooter in the portal last year and ended up at KU and by all accounts has been a massive disappointment. I get what you are saying but I also think there are tiers of guys for programs of who they think they have a realistic chance at.

On mobile at a dr office, someone post a profile or highlights. If you will.

Woof.. the wonder boys or whatever ark tech is..? Man we are desperate if we are touching this guy imo. Like when we randomly gave that NOC-Enid kid a scholarship that never played..

These sites are saying followed is a contact or heard from or setup a visit.

All bologna. Ou never talked to Jadon wells from uco. He’s using that for other leverage

And finally back.

Thanks @Moneyball. As I posted the tweet, I had to head to the back. It was actually an imaging center.

Anywho, I think it's OU doing their due diligence. With this specific kid, he averaged 19 ppg. Someone OU would likely add? No. Someone worth looking into? Sure.

I don't hate the approach. In fact, I think it's a huge plus to know the coaches are looking everywhere they can. It's a good thing.

Jack Gohlke - started out at D2
The Minix kid who averaged 20 ppg at Morehead State - NAIA
Dalton Knecht (SEC POY) - juco and then Northern Colorado (who might as well be D2)

and on and on. Talent can come from anywhere, IMO. Especially the way covid happened. There were a lot of overlooked kids, much more than usual.

This kid just followed the entire OU basketball staff (Edit: except Moser but I doubt that was intentional). None have followed him back, yet.

Likely? I mean, probably not. Doesn't fit a need IF Javian is back, IMO. And I don't see an SEC player when I watch his film. But we'll "monitor" him.

Eh, no OU. They should at least send a DM, "Hey, you have an offer from OU if you that interests you. No NIL, though."

I'm kidding on the NIL.

And this kid is already rumored to be heading to St. John's (the school who nudged him to the portal).

Plus, OU's big man efforts are fixated, for now, on Garrison

That kid has more paint penetration and athleticism than I saw from Los all season. D2 doesn't always mean, meh.

He has a good highlight reel there

For sure.

Do I want OU to add an entire team of "NAIA All-Stars", no.

Simply put, go find the best players. They should scour the top 3P shooting lists at all levels. RPG, PPG, etc. You just never know. You could unearth the next SEC POY.

Really think we’re getting Garrison.
