Possible transfers

It may be difficult but not impossible. OU has alot going for it, alot more than some on here give it credit for. Worldwide brand. Jordan. Need. Moser is at a disadvantage in some ways because he hasn't been here long, but believe me he has alot going for him. When I see teams like Tennessee getting great HS recruits and transfers.. I mean I don't have the time to name them all but there are tons of programs with tons less going for them than OU getting really good players. Have some faith! Let's see how it plays out.

Needs his full staff here! Needs HR to finish background checks on "support" personnel.

OU will be fine.

To me getting great bigs is like getting great defensive tackles. They are few and everyone wants them. That is why Riley makes it such a focus and splits the dline up in football into two coaches. In my opinion that is what a bball coach should do, at least in focus. Get a renowned big man coach who can also recruit like a banshee. Although I guess of course those don't grow on trees either.

Like Coach said hopefully he can get his staff here and working soon before too many good guys sign. Beard isn't appearing to have much of a problem. We know KT Turner is recruiting because the Oklahoman article mentioned him helping recruit Noland to stay.

The good news is he competed at a pretty high level without those guys that many would consider top tier guys. So he is likely developing players well. That said, he will be able to land better athletes at OU than he was at LC...hopefully he will develop them just as well.

I'm curious how he will go about recruiting guys that fit his style compared to the ones he was recruiting at LC that fit his style. It will be fun to watch.

I’m excited about Moser’s player development. Our former coaching staff did a fairly good job in developing guards and wings. We had way too many bigs in the last five years (our FF season) who only got marginally better over time, some of them projects who left after two years.

Yes, there was an exception or two (Doolittle comes immediately to mind), but most of them failed to contribute on a reasonably high level. Was that due to a poor job on the front end in identifying bigs who had the basic skills, work ethic and desire to improve, or was it an inability to motivate and teach the players our coaches were bringing in? Maybe a little of both.

If Moser can surround himself with coaches who are good at evaluating and developing players, I will be one happy fan!

Great point and i'm curious about the Issanza situation. I wonder if Moser would have told him to hit the bricks if he didn't think he had something. It would be awesome if Moser/staff could develop Rick. Will be fun to watch if so..

I think the challenge is that Lon wanted NBA bigs, couldn't get the top guys to come here, so he recruited guys that looked the part (size + athleticism) ... but weren't basketball players that could grow to/past this level.

We would have been better off going after the undersized guys who could really go a la Spangler or the less athletic guys with great basketball skills like Krutwig or Groves.

Yes, if moser wasn’t already aware of the pay to play programs then he will be soon. He doesn’t seem like the type of guy to bend the rules. Think we can hear in his press conference that he was promised time to build the program the right way. That probably means it will be a slower process unless he can have a Blake fall into his lap.

The guy recruited in Chicago. He's well aware of the pay to play situations.

You may be right. I remember something Lon said in interviews about more than one big over the years [paraphrasing here]: “we’re going to move him outside and take advantage of his size on the perimeter.” I know he said that about Lattin and McNeace, but there were others.

It made me wonder if Lon was telling recruits that because he knew it’s what they wanted to hear? But he was never into lying to kids to get their signature. He actually gave them a chance to be stretch fours. I also remember thinking why are you letting Khadeem shoot from the perimeter? He can’t make layups and slam dunks. :ez-laugh:

Its like shopping for a new car. After you decide what model you are looking for and go to the dealership they might not have the exact color you want, they might not have one with leather seats, they might not have one with the Bose speakers you were looking for....you either settle for one that isn't exactly like you wanted or you keep looking for one that is as close as possible to your dream car. LOL You know when you find it.

It's like going to the car dealership with your buddy and the salesman offering your buddy a bag of money to buy the car.

Groves from Eastern Washington has narrowed it to us, Texas, Washington State, and Portland. I mentioned as soon as he entered the portal that I’d love to get him.

Coach, Witchita, you guys must have the same source. :ez-laugh:

That would be my guess too.

Don’t take that as where I think he’ll go, was just saying the last school on the list was Washington state.

Personally think Portland has a good shot. Believe he’s got connections there at the program. I’m not sure he or his brother want to leave the NW either.

Hope to be wrong on this one though.

The groves bros feel more gettable for moser for some reason. They seem to fit his style more than a guy like iwuakor would, for instance. Having said that, it is hard to commit to this program rn without knowing who else is on the roster. Playing time looks to be wide open but I’m sure these kids want to go to a winner, as well.

If they come it is probably a tell that Krutwig is going pro.
