“I don’t know what it was. It’s been that way in practice, to be honest with you. We haven’t played as well defensively as we were before and that’s something we have to get back to. I’m not sure if anyone, since we got back from Arizona, has shot over 45 percent against us. And (tonight) we had a team shoot 61 percent in the first half and shoot 54 for the game. We have to get better there. Our 1-3-1 zone wasn’t as effective today. Our guards have to get out into the corners and not let shots come. They attacked us there, probably hit about four or five 3’s from the corner against our 1-3-1 zone. Our matchup (zone) wasn’t good today. We didn’t do a great job of communicating. So we’ll get back to work on that and do better.”

“Mainly I’m just trying to stay on attack mode. Me and my Dad had that long talk where we both said I wasn’t playing my best and that I need to go out there and prove myself. That’s the main thing.”

Thanks, Dad! Could we make those calls once or twice a week?

Before what... the last time we played well defensively was before Capel.

We had held four consecutive teams below 45% shooting entering tonight. That's good defense, and that's what he was referring to.

I know which four games he was referring to... and I still stand by my statement. I guess my definition of "in your face" defense is different from his.

Fair enough, but Coach Capel, like any other coach, can be excused for finding the positives where he can. All negative all the time only works so long -- as a coach, you have to point to some positives when they occur, or your players start to feel it's a losing battle.

This is exactly correct. Last year everyone was griping because Jeff was always so negative after the games. This year he has gone with the positive approach with the young guys and everyone is still griping. No win situation at this point.
