Post scoring

What an odd thing to post on a day when we soundly beat a Baylor team with good bigs...and a Baylor team that hasn't lost at home this season. Maybe next time you should refrain from posting something negative during the game.

The ongoing mantra in the NCAA tourney is that teams with great guard play go further. When making picks for the tourney, you rarely see the experts dog a team because of their lack of post scoring when they have good guards (and guard depth) and shooting like OU has.

I'm one of the biggest OU fans around. I'm just saying clearly this team needs the ability to score in the post. Right now it doesn't exist . Spangler is hesitant and AK doesn't play. Everyone else is too small or still developing. Jamuni needs to work real hard on his post moves because he looks like a athlete

Maybe next time you should start off with thoughts like that rather than, "Without it, OU is a pretender not a contender."

OU is clearly a contender this season.

Newbie, thanks for the jab. Clearly OU has to get some post scoring. And I'm not talking about Spangler hitting 3s or Lattin hitting 15ft jump shots. I'm talking back to the basket post scoring. When OU gets beat in the sweet 16 because the shooters have a off game, I'll be here to remind you.

I will gladly answer your question.....so long as you answer my question "If OU isn't a contender, then who would you define as a contender".

As for having back-to-the-basket scoring, we don't have a post threat who has those type of skills this season....outside of Manyang. But he likely won't get enough playing time in the remainder of the season to really develop more of his game. But that doesn't mean that we are unable to get points in the paint. Spangler and Lattin are perfectly capable of cleaning up misses. Also, we have several guards who can get to the basket and score in the paint. And we get several baskets a game in transition....this all leads to "inside points". Your assertion that OU is a pretender because they don't have post play is incorrect and shortsighted at best....and ignorant/stupid at worst. If having a back-to-the basket post game is a prerequisite to be a contender, than there are a bunch of good teams that aren't "contenders".

Our post play could still use some work especially for tourney play. Spangler has to get out of his funk. We need 12-10, from him and 6-8 from Lattin. Today three rebounds each is a shock. Fellas it will be beneficial when the three's dont fall. Some king of inside scoring is needed always. Boomer

I don't disagree that improvement in the post would certainly help with some balance. But when we have games when the 3s aren't falling, the next logical step is to take the ball to the basket and get to the FT line. The only games we've lost this year weren't because of post play....it was because of ill-timed TOs and key rebounds at different points in the game.

Post players need to do something but great guards really win you titles.

When have the 3s not fallen? At some point you have to embrace your identity.

Let me be very clear, OU is a great shooting team. Even the bigs shoot it well. When hot this team can beat anyone in the country. My only concern is that if the shots aren't falling, can Spangler get a basket using a post move. Not saying he is incapable, just for some reason the only player on the team that looks for it is, AK. I think AK needs a few minutes every game to develop his inside game. I think if we could get Kevin Bookout type of post it would really help. The bigs just have to show that it is a threat. Another note, rebounding has been an issue for several games. OUTEST, seems to be the only one that agrees with me,and that's ok.

Yes, Spangler can get a basket with a post move. Did you miss him going up and under for a basket today? But if the shots aren't falling, we have other options besides dumping into the post. As others have pointed out, when the shots aren't falling we take it to the basket, which we can do with ease.

We have a trip to LSU next. Let's see how we handles Ben Simmon.

Perry Ellis scored like what over 20 points against us. And he is only 6'8" more like 6'6''.

How big a boy are ya? The team has weaknesses yet they've played a very good schedule and are ranked #1. Who are the 8 or 10 teams that are not pretenders.

6'190, that's my size buddy. Clown thread? I guess the inability to score consistently from the post isn't real. When OU plays in the tournament, you all will see.
