Just one practice, so not a bill sample size, but my thoughts:

1) Young is a difference maker
2) Manek is a steal and will be a really good player
3) Returning players all looked more mature and confident

4) went to several practices last year, and the one today was 10x more productive it seemed to me. They really went hard and looked like they knew what they were doing. Last year it seemed the practices were constantly broken up/stopped and a lot of coaching/direction being given. Kids worked hard start to finish today

5) Giles, geha and Thorpe are the best walk-on players I have seen at OU

BTW, I was really impressed with Geha. What is his story? I had never heard of him, but he really looked like a player today. Again, maybe it was just a good practice for him, but he looked like he could play. Hard to believe giles is a walk on as well.

Lot of fun, I would recommend going to anyone.

Thanks for the report -- much appreciated!

Some additional tidbits:

Never have seen McNease shoot a jumper, but he hit two from the corner.

Never have seen Lattin shoot a three, but he made one from the top of the key

As a non coach, found it interesting that they focus on communication in just about every drill.

CJ has really worked on his body. he is cut. Played pretty well too.

Outside of Young, didn't think we shot the ball from the perimeter very well.

Practice was in the practice gym, which was fun. You sit in chairs courtside. Kruger and all of the assistants, at one point or another, came by and introduced themselves and thanked us for coming out. We were handed rosters and a practice schedule. Each drill is on the clock and the practice is incredibly organized. Speaks well of the staff.

Never saw any yelling or "getting on" players, it seemed to be all just positive reinforcement and teaching. Kids seem to like to practice and seem to be having fun.

Loved being right on the action and just a couple feet from the court. it seemed like you were in practice yourself. You guys need to go to one of these, if you haven't. You will enjoy it. Particularly if the practice is in the practice gym.

I enjoy coach Lon's approach to practice. This is NOT how he has always done it BTW.

Are the practices generally in AM or afternoons?

Lady on the phone said practice will be at 3 today. Also said practice times will vary, so unsure if there will be morning times

Much appreciated, cowboysooner!

You were obviously impressed with our walk ons. Any chance Giles and/or Geha might help us at some point, if not this season down the road a ways?

James could be our comeback player of the year. He was good when he played with Isaih, Spengler and Buddy but maybe he was overwhelmed with being one of the key guys last year and tried too hard.

Young should help him. Playing with a good point guard will get him more easy shots. While Woodard was a real contributor he never really shined as a point guard as much as he did as and off guard in 15-16. I think Kruger recognized that and moved to Isaih there in our final four year.

I don't think any player will benefit more from the addition of young than james, perhaps mcnease
