Prep Spotlight: Josh Richardson

Must be a heck of an academic prospect if Harvard has offered....since they don't give athletic scholarships to my knowledge.

I saw him this summer and he reminds me a lot of AJ. Extremely skinny, very court saavy.

I have known this kid for several years...he is a GREAT young man. OU would be lucky to have him.

What do you think of his game.

I like that he's ultra athletic, can jump out of the gym, long wingspan, can defend lots of positions etc. Handles are pretty good and his jumpshot is decent.

He's the type of kid who goes to a Wichita State or ORU, and two years later we're all wondering on this board why the hell he wasn't offered. Give him a year in college to polish up his wing skills and this is a J.R. Giddens type player, IMO.

Really wish we had room for him. If he were in the same class as Neal last year, no disrespect to Neal but you would've taken Richardson over him in a heartbeat. Wish we had room for him Rainey and Jarion Henry to be honest.

He is a nice player. I wouldnt say he jumps out of the gym at all. He shoots the three ok and is a smooth player.

Went to the Santa Fe vs Putman North game this evening.

Wasn't much of a contest as Santa Fe cruised to a 79-45 win. Richardson had a very good showing, I was filming so I didn't get an official count but I suspected he had a 15 and 10 type double double. Could've had a good amount of assists as well if his teammates could shoot or finish better. He excels in transition and I didn't notice much in the half court. He had a few really nice dunks, one time he just took an inbound pass and raced past the defenders for an easy slam.

He's a good athlete and has a good wingspan so he affects passing lanes. Even though he ran the point some tonight and did that for Athletes First over the Summer I just don't see that working out in college. He's reckless at times with the ball and I don't believe he could run a college team.

I really can't think of a good comparison for him, I guess maybe AJ is the closet as others have mentioned. I just suspect AJ had a better feel for an offense in half court than Josh does at this point in their respective careers. Potentially he could be a pretty good player but I feel that his first two years will have a lot of growing pains as right now he's relies more on athletic ability than skills from all that I've seen.

I think if he were to go to OU he would have a David Godbold type career. Since this team needs an instant impact I don't think he would be worth the ship if there are better options in 2012. If OU is just going to fill out their ships ala last year I would then love to get this kid.

His teammate (2012 Forward) Mike Onuoha was the one who really carried the load for Santa Fe on offense, 6'6 and 230 or so would be my guess on him. He also has a sweet touch on the free throw line for a big man, a lot more assertive than I saw him last year. PC North had no size and it showed as I bet he had 20+ plus. He also threw down a strong dunk over a kid.

Thanks for the report sam. Did Shaquille Morris get to play much for Sante Fe?

He was not suited up, I believed he has an ankle injury.

Also a TCU assistant was there, I'm sure to watch Richardson.

Hasn't Capel been looking for a tall point guard to mold? That's what Richardson represents. A potential player with Capel's skills and the athleticism to be a disruptive defender at the point - Jalen Rose or Daryn Selvy or an AJ but longer.

That's what the Thunder saw in Westbrook-- super athleticism, defensive instincts and very raw point guard skills.

On a separate note, Edmond has another Obi?

I would say Richardson is a lot closer to Selvy than AJ, but it's been a year since I've seen him play so I guess his game could've changed.

I believe it is accurate that they don't technically give athletic scholarships; however, they do recruit and find a way to get players on campus. I had a buddy go to Columbia to play football (and golf). He probably would not have gotten into Columbia without the athletic ability (he said he had about a 1% chance without being an athlete).

He reminds me of clyde drexler, but ofcourse not as dominant.

Ou needs to offer this kid he just turned 17 has potential to be a great player.
