Why is college basketball the only level of basketball that plays halves instead of quarters?

I'd bet it will switch within the next 5 years. Effective next season, women's division 1 will be switching to quarters. It's unclear why they didn't switch the men's and women's game to quarters at the same time. They probably want to test it out with the lower revenue game.

I see no need for quarters, they're already cutting timeouts. No benefit to the game either.

Yes and yes. Just leave it two halves. 28 second shot clock..

I kinda like it being halves because you basically know when the timeouts are for the most part. And it seems there are fewer stoppages because of that. Seems like there are more stoppages for commercials in NBA games.

Question---if the NCAA went to quarters, would they keep the possession arrow? It seems like that could lead to some odd scenarios.

lol @ the possession arrow.

How about a jump ball like in real basketball?

Problem solved.

Agreed 100%. If moving to quarters forces elimination of the possession arrow, I'm all for it. I also like the increased "2 for 1" opportunities. Adds another element of strategy.
