Rank the new Big 12 hires

It's one thing to make a claim then change your mind well into the future.

It's another to make such strong claims about something very specific then do a complete 180 almost immediately.

Right, but none of that means he IS NOT the best new coach in the Big 12. This thread is about the best new coach in the Big 12. Its not about who is the coolest guy, who has the cleanest record, who makes the most money, etc. Its about who the best new coach in the league is.

If you read my original post then you will see why I have him at number two. Both are great hires for our respective programs. Tech made a tech move. OU made an OU move.

Would I have loved to have taken that chance on BCG? Yes I would. But after seeing what Kruger has done here already and learning more about him, I think he was the better fit for this job. Joe C made the right call at this point imo. We will see if that's still true in 2-3 years...

It's boca. Consider the source. He is all about the shock value. :)

The old search button can come back to bite you for sure.

Abd of all people knows that all too well. I try not to use it that much on people personally because we all have made claims, predictions, and knee jerk reactions on here that turn out to look foolish in the future.

There was a time that I thought Capel was the second best coach in the conference! :(

The search button has not been kind to me, lol. Anyone who makes predictions, goes out on a limb, and doesnt post the obvious lives in fear of the search button, lol.

There was a time when I thought my wife was the most beautiful woman in the world!:)

Niether school could go wrong? BG is a drunk and he will do it again. Just like Eddie.

I should probably rephrase: On the surface, both look like a really good hire. Both programs got about as good of a coach that they were realistically able to get.

And I think saying he will automatically have the same transgressions is a little presumptuous. I think it's a bit risky, but that doesn't automatically mean that he is going to do it again.

I think Tech hiring a coach like BCG is more impressive than OU hiring a guy like Kruger... BCG was at the top, possibly the biggest name in coaching coming out of A&M.

Kruger is great, but its not like OU lured him away from Duke or something. He was at a mid-level Mountain West school.

Tech did a great job and got lucky to land a guy like BCG, while OU is expected to land a good coach like Kruger.

I see what you are saying. By that rationale of which program exceeded their normal expectations by getting a coach they wouldn't always get, you are probably right.

Still, I thought the requirement of this thread was to name the best coach, period? Either way, I don't think BCG was the biggest name in college basketball coming out of A&M. He was a great hire for UK at the time, but far from "the biggest name".

abd takes irrelevant things out of context to try and spin his points.

He used to use the quote feature but now is cutting and pasting to contain his spin better.

BCG was a risky hire. Joe C passed on the risk because OU does not have to take that risk which was proven by the Kruger hire.

Kruger's had the highest level of success, the most recent success and has been in such demand that he's made more money than all 3 other new coaches in the Big XII combined.

As a matter of law there is no way Tech made the best hire because they are tech. The worst job in the worst location. They get what's left over. Always have and always will.

I don't think any of the coaches were in such great demand, but based on pedigree and past trends, Kruger is unquestionably the best hire.

Absolutely no question about that. Just thought boca's apparent suggestion that Kruger was some kind of hot commodity was a bit absurd.

Kruger has had the best career by far. Gillispie could maybe rival him as far as recent success goes (looking at his UTEP and A&M teams, not so much UK). Haith and Kennedy have a lot to prove, but I think both have the potential to do very well at their current school.

All four hires could end up very successful, and I could see all four failing (for different reasons).

Agreed. It's not a guarantee that Kruger nor BCG will end up doing the best out of all 4.
