Rick Pitino to be featured on bottle of Maker's Mark

Rick Pitino is having a pretty eventful spring. He won a national championship, got a tattoo to commemorate the title, had a horse in the Kentucky Derby, saw his son get a head coaching job at Minnesota, caught an enormous marlin with his buddies -- not a bad few weeks.

And now, he's going to be featured on a series of Maker's Mark bottles. The second of three bottles will honor the accomplishments of Pitino, who will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in September, and guided the Cardinals to their third NCAA national title with a 82-76 win over Michigan, the school's first championship since 1986.

According to the school, a total of 12,600 bottles will be available to the public. The first commemorative bottle of the Kentucky bourbon was issued last season, honoring Louisville football coach Charlie Strong. That one sold more than 8,400 bottles -- I'm guessing the Pitino bottle will sell its complete allotment.

Coach Cal was featured on one last year after Kentucky won it.

It's a tradition in the state of Kentucky.

Limited edition. For a hardcore fan, it would make a unique collector's item, to be admired for years and never to be opened.

If OU ever wins a NC in basketball I would be a buyer of every conceivable collector's item related to the event.
