Is Robbie Avila, St Louis Billiken post player, related to ex-Sooner Victor Avila?

no. they showed his family at a game recently. i thought so too last year but couldn’t find anything.

He's averaging 17 points a game. He would have been a nice addition to our team, but it was not to be. At 6-10 and 240, it seems like he would have been able to handle the physical requirements of SEC play.

He was following his coach no matter what. Probably couldn't offer enough to get him out of Indiana State.

Not near athletic enough imo.
He’d be an interesting text case. He is a much better player than Tanner. He’s a great passer and facilitator. I generally feel like you need elite athletes in the SEC, but there are occasional exceptions and he might be one. But our only chance to get him would have been to hire his coach last year. Although … he does have a season of eligibility left …

I think they are much closer than you think. MUCH BETTER is a very subjective statement.

Tanner v. Avila stats comparison (sports-reference):

*Note the adjusted total takes into account Team Efficiency to adjust the results based on success.

Avila's Indiana St season is gnarly good, but he has come back down a tad with stronger competition.

So ranking their last few seasons, it would go:

1. Avila '24
2. Groves '21
3. Groves '22
4. Avila '25
5. Groves '23

He might be okay on offense but I don’t see him as athletic enough to cover SEC bigs. I mean I would say he’s less athletic than Sam G. I don’t think he has enough skill to make up for it.
