Rotnei Clarke expected to visit OU next week

I'm torn whether I want the kid or not.

I want him because there is always room for kids that shoot the ball. But, is it worth it for just one year.

Tough call.

I think it would be.
We would have a pretty veteran group in 2012. Could contend for the big 12 championship

If we have a spot to fill for 2011-2012 it's well worth it. If he isn't going to pan out you'll find out in the year he has to sit and can cut him loose. Remember this the kid is named after a Sooner and had it not been for the rift with Willie Warren he would have been a Sooner. There's a lot of talk about taking kids who want to be at OU, well this kid has wanted for a very big portion of his life to be a Sooner. I bet when/if he gets a chance to live that childhood dream he'll take advantage of it.

I have spoken with Rotnei's dad a time or two and I know that OU was always high on the list.

I know that Kruger has had success with transfers, just wondered if it was a good thing for one season.

He might be just the missing piece in 2012-13.

I'd rather have the 'ship available for 2013, then 2012. There is a ton of talent in OK/TX for 2013. Plus, having Clarke next year gives him a year to learn the system, and gives OU a good player in practice for the starters to go up against. Same with the other transfer that is sitting out. That is some pretty solid talent that won't be worried about adjusting to D1, but instead, can learn Kruger's system, and give the starters a run for their money.

i agree with this, sure its just one year but in Kruger's up tempo style the more proven scorers the better.

Generally, transfers don't have attitude problems because they know they are on their last chance. This would seem to be especially true for a player with only one year of eligibility left.

I agree with this 100%. I'm going helmet-head here for a second. Stoops constantly talks about the best tool for teams/players getting better is competition. The ability of M'Baye and Clarke will really push the starters every day in practice. The players, and transfers, will quickly understand they better work hard to get better if they want minutes.

It's a big reason why Duke, UNC, and others with several McD's AA succeed where teams with a couple, or even 3, fail. The old saying, "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" comes true more often than not.

This.

What's not to like about an Oklahoma kid who would have been a Sooner three years ago, if not for a rift with a player who was not known for his team-first attitude.

Rotnei Clarke has skills, and he's one of the best shooters to come down the pike in years, a rare commodity these days. He'll sit out a season, learn Kruger's system, get acquainted with the guys he'll team with the following year, and give OU one heck of a threat from deep in 2013. I say take him if he wants to come!

Duke's practice players are scrubs.

Is Rotnei a team first guy? Reports indicated he has wanted out of Fayetteville after every season.

I'd take him in a heart beat right now as well. We aren't using the scholly this year anyway, and secondly Lon can get rid of him if he thinks this isn't going to work out. Plus like others have mentioned 2013 is loaded within the state and Texas .

His me-first attitude (from reports, I have no firsthand info), disinterest in playing defense, threats to leave Arkansas year after year (honestly, who transfers with one year of eligibility left, when a respected coach like Anderson is coming in?).

I'm tired one-and-done players of any kind and I sure don't want selfish guys with questionable attitudes. If Coach Kruger wants him, I'll zip my lip (well, I'll try), but my alarm bells are going off. I don't feel good about this.

Every good scorer is a little selfish. This is not your typical one and done, local kid.

From what I have heard, not first hand, he left more out of respect for phelrey(sp) then anything else.

Rotnei had always been on winning teams. Arky sucked every year and he also played with a few good guys and a bunch of thugs. Anybody in their right minds would have wanted to leave every year. He was way too loyal for way too long IMO.
