Rumors of Rick Barnes stepping down

It's a great job and they will get a good coach. There will be plenty of interested candidates. Patterson has provably already been working it.

Based on timing, I bet they go after Marshall.

Bo Ryan is nearly 70, I doubt Texas goes in that direction.

Some names I would watch out for:

  • Greg Marshall (Wichita State)
  • Frank Haith (had a good year at Tulsa, former Texas assistant)
  • Danny Manning (Wake Forest)
  • Larry Eustachy (Colorado State)

Eustachy is 59 and has had a lot of problems with alcohol. He seems to have it together now, and is a good coach, but it would surprise me for UT to pick him.

Shaka Smart might be a good pick.

God I hope so! VCU coaches have been SO successful in major programs!

They aren't going to hire Shaka. Not sure he'd go if offered either.

Shaka would be a good hire ..... I don't care what Jeff Capel and Anthony Grant did when they left VCU. He's won at least 26 games each of his 6 years, and has a Final Four appearance. He's young and runs a system that both players and fans enjoy. Several schools have tried to come after him with no luck.

Texas has the money and stature to interest him. I hope Texas doesn't get him.

I don't know why but Smart seems like a bad fit. Marshall seems like the top choice with Buzz Williams as a backup plan.

I'd guess Marshall or Archie Miller. I know Miller just signed an extension but I'm sure there's a buyout Texas can afford.

Of all the names mentioned, I welcome all of them except Archie Miller. Texas would leave us in the dust and be trading punches with Kansas in no time. I'd take Kruger over any of the other coaches mentioned.

Miller also seems like a good fit. He gets everything his players have. That is for damn sure. Impressive coach.
