Ryan Spangler gets Osby's seal of approval

Didn't Bennett get Kruger's seal of approval earlier in the season when he said something like "yeah, he is going to be a really good one". If Spangler and Bennett are both solid players, OU should have a really nice three deep in the post.

Add in Booker and Henry (if he can get here) and next years roster looks pretty talented, but young. The year after that could be a very good season.

I'm excited about all the new guys we have coming in next year – and those we're hoping will make it to Norman. Yes, we'll be young, but if Spangler's anywhere close to the rebounding machine he's made out to be, and if M'Baye makes the progress we want and need, the Sooners will be fun to watch. There's really no reason we shouldn't be good enough to make it back to the dance, either.

Having said that, life for the Sooners without Romero Osby won't be easy when competing against Big XII caliber talent. Ro really is the heart and soul of this year's team. I just hope one of next year's seniors (M'Baye, Cam) will be able to step up and provide the leadership we'll so desperately need.

A little off-topic here, but the article said Osby has scored 471 points this season. That's roughly half of what Wayman averaged per season in his 3 seasons.

Let that soak in for a moment.

We miss you big fella.

Agreed.

As talented as Osby is, and he's very good, his greatest accomplishment thus far is leading this team. His leadership will be missed but hopefully somebody is ready and willing to step-up.

I'm excited, too, Scrybe! Spangler was a player several posters on this board thought we should have signed when he came out of high school. BigTime was really high on him back then.

If Romero is right about this kid, and the reports about Bennett's defense and ability to block shots are accurate, that would lessen the blow of losing Osby to some extent. I didn't say either of those players can replace him, just that they could make the pain of losing Ro more bearable. Like you, I'm also counting on Cam and Amath playing a bigger role next year. Romero's leadership may be impossible to replace. IMO, he's the best leader an OU team has had in years. Will someone on our roster now step up and at least try to fill his shoes? That remains to be seen.

Its going to have to be done by the group as a whole. Our Frosh guards getting so much time will be far ahead of where they are now. They will pick up a lot of the slack scoring for sure, bigs will come around, I assume it will take spangler a year, similar to M'Baye. He should lead our "bigs".

That is nuts how dominate Wayman was.

watchign Wayman was amazing. My dad and I had season tickets during his three-year career and I can remember heading out of the LNC and discussing how many points did Wayman have tonight. I'd say - "oh, probably 22"....my dad would say, "no more like 26". We'd get to the car, flip on the radio and hear John Brooks say, another great night for Tisdale, he finished with 35 points. He score so effortlessly you'd forget how many points he had. So smooth.

Romero's leadership will be at least as hard to replace as his scoring. I'm as much interested in who will step into that role as in who will replace his scoring. The scoring I expect will be spread around and maybe the leadership, too. Without him, someone(s) needs to.

I agree that Romero's scoring will be more of a team effort. I don't think anyone can replace him as a team leader. As I said earlier, he's the best team leader to come along in years. Johnnie Gilbert was a great team leader, but even he wasn't as good as Ro. JG was more of an energetic, enthusiastic team leader. Ro is like having a another coach on the bench and on the floor. If one of his teammates steps out of line or slacks off in doing his job, Osby will get in his face. I like that!

Yes, probably the best leader we've had since Eduardo. And, like Eduardo, he leads by example so he walks the walk and talks the talk.

Yes, it was amazing and I am blessed to have been fortunate to watch him play a bunch. He wasn't about the same height as Ro but not as stacked up top, but Wayman had huge thighs. I can remember Mike Treps, who did the PA at the time, would get tired of saying "Wayman Tisdale" or "Wayman" when he would score, so he had to change it up. Sometimes it was WT, sometimes it was Mr. T, sometimes it was simply Tisdale but with emphasis.
