Scary post on twitter

Geno would also cause me to quit OU basketball. Traber and I would drink bud ice and laugh at OU basketball in the LNC parking lot.

As Traber screams about all the lesbians that are probably inside.

If we got Geno our starting lineup next year would be T.J. Franklin, James Fraschilla, Barry Honore, Kyle Hardrick and Nick Thompson.

Hell just have SC coach both teams!
The recruiting factor alone makes this a huge NO! It aint happening so dont worry!

Geno is an excellent BB coach.

If OU hired him, he'd be a Top 15 caliber coach. He is THAT good.

This is the way I feel about a hiring of Geno

If we end up hiring Geno Auriemma, I'll admit that everything I ever said about Capel was wrong and that we should have kept him.

I don't think it would be coaching-related as much as it would be recruiting-related. Would you send your son to play for him? I wouldn't.

So he coaches girls bball? so what? never met him so I couldn't say how he is. but to dismiss someone b/c they coached womens bball is just dumb. he obviously has a great bball mind. I wouldn't mind if joe c brought him in for a lengthy talk on how he feels his coaching would translate to mens.

I hate to throw cold water on what has been an interesting (and fun) discussion, but OU is not going to hire Geno Auriemma.

His current salary at UCONN is $1.6 million annually. Does anyone really believe he would leave a sport he has dominated like no other coach since Wooden for a sport that is totally foreign to him? Do you think he would be foolish enough to leave a state that would elect him as their governor if he chose to run? What are the odds that OU would be willing to pay an unproven coach in the men's game $2 million or more to take the job? It would take at least that much to lure him from his comfortable Eastern Seaboard home.

My answer to all of these questions is slim and none, and slim has already left the arena.

This hire wouldn't bother me a bit. The only question I would have is the recruiting aspect. The coaching, as bad as some of you want to make it, isn't much different. The X's and O's are EXACTLY the same.....the personalities and egos are different. Someone said Geno wins because he gets better talent than everyone else.....he gets better talent BECAUSE he is Geno and has built that program and the rep.....the guy knows his stuff and would do very well on the coaching side of things. I'm sure he would bring in some coaches with the right connections to bring in recruits.

I know it is a different game than college but I watched a high school team play for a state title (and win it) this year with a coach that just moved over from the boys side a year ago after winning two straight girls state titles here in NC....my point is, winners know how to win and they know how to prepare. Geno knows how to do those things....I'm sure he would know how to get the players here but it might take a couple of years to upgrade the talent...but it is going to take ANY coach a couple of years to do that.

Just an opinion

Hiring Geno would be 100 better than hiring some mens coach who has never won a championship. Geno has proven, on the biggest stage that he can win......has absolutely dominated the womens game (which seriously isn't really different from an X's and O's standpoint).....

I would have no problem hiring a Johnny Jones, a Terry Evans or even a Cuonzo Martin.....but Geno has FAR surpassed all those guys COMBINED from a success standpoint. He would have no problem transitioning to the mens game.....and truthfully it would be a little funny watching the extent of some of your meltdowns if it did happen. LOL

I've coached both men's and women's soccer and won national championships at both. Both are very different games, that require very different coaching philosophies.

If I could do it, certainly a genius coach like Geno knows the differences between coaching men and women.

I support whoever Joe C hires. After all, it's OU bball; and I want them to be successful. I hope our next coach brings us back.

Excellent post NCS. There is no doubt that Geno could coach on the men's side. He is a proven winner, and if you have ever watched any documentaries on him and his program you can see that his teams are very disciplined and fundamentally sound, while at the same time being very talented. Like Cal at Kentucky, he has no problem lighting into his stars and not treating them with kid gloves. The whole issue would be recruiting. Even if he hired the 3 best mbb recruiters in the country (which would also be very expensive), it would take years for him to build up any credibility and trust in the mbb community. I just can't see any way that he would risk his legacy on that. Nor do I see Joe C. risking his for the same reasons.

On a side note I think he would do a great job as a head coach for one of the men's USA teams. No doubt he could do as good a job as most we are turning the teams over to, and it would bring alot of interest and media attention in a non-Olympic year. If it were our Under-18 team it would also eliminate some of the recruiting advantage that the coach of the team has in being able to spend an extra month being able to recruit and cater to rising seniors.
