Don't blame kids for the mistakes of Capel. Capel was the pilot. He had no system. He had no discipline. He let himself down, he let the fans down but more importantly he let those kids down. Gallon, Warren and TMG had a a chance to play in the NBA but Capel lacked strong leadership skills and allowed those kids to self destruct. Tell the truth and don't blame 18 year old kids for the mistakes of adults.

TMG is never going to get a second chance in life. Lets not sugar coat history to help Capel get a second chance.

TMG is playing pro ball in Germany right now. seems to me he is getting his 2nd chance

Travis Ford is routinely blamed for Marcus Smart's antics. My words probably don't do a good job of conveying my opinion. I certainly think the kids are responsible too but that story does not adequately place blame on Capel. Capel got a second chance immediately. He went to Duke and probably makes several hundred thousand a year. One day he might get another head coaching job. What is going to happen to WW, TMG and Gallon? Is anyone ever going to give TMG a second chance. He was 18. Capel was an adult.

I get what the writer was trying to do in painting a contrast between Tyler Neal and the player's Capel brought in that put the program on the wrong path. If he was going to bring that up, he should have spent more time in telling the whole story.

Capel was to blame for much of what happened in his last two seasons, because he was the guy in charge. But he also brought in a program-changer McDonald's All-American in Blake Griffin, and to a lesser extent Willie Warren, who was nothing like the two in question. CoachTalk is right, you can't blame the coach entirely without putting some of the responsibility on the players who created the problems in the first place.

Having said that, I don't want to detract from Tyler Neal's impact on OU's program. He has been a model citizen, a great student and a solid role player his entire career. I have been critical of his contribution to the team at times, mainly due to his inability to guard bigger, stronger players down low. I couldn't be more pleased with his play this year!

I have said this before and I'll say it again, we couldn't ask for more from a role player than what Tyler has brought to the floor this season. I never thought I would say this, but he will be missed next year!

Capel's judgements about people were terrible. His coaching did nothing to improve on his judgment. Those guys were losers from the start and didnt get any better under his leadership. I really hope they've learned something since.

Good coaching can change kids lives if done the right way. Ive seen it happen time and time again.

That is good. I am not a fan of TMG but he was 18 and may not have grown up in the best environment.

My only point is that society often tends to hold the kids more responsible than the adults and I think both parties should be responsible but the consequences for the adult should be more severe.

Gallon and Warren were both drafted and had their chance to play in the NBA. Gallon is still moving around the D league while Willie is playing ball overseas in Hungary. And honestly, due to his size TMG was never gonna make it. They had their chance to make it in the league, can't blame Capel for that.

You are acting like TMG, WW, and Gallon had no fault of their own. They had A LOT to do with what happened at OU. Capel did as well, but I'd put the blame closer to 50/50.

True, but it's unfair to suggest any/every good coach could have reached those guys. Maybe. Maybe not. I'm guessing Kelvin would have ended up booting at least one of those guys.
