When the dust settles and OU, Tech, OSU, and UT are in the Pac-16 the "left behind" schools should join the Mountain West conference, which only has 8 teams.

It could become the new Big East in terms of football (suck conference with a BCS bid) and be a 4-5 bid conference for the NCAA Tournament in basketball.

Its more on their competitive level in football and fine for basketball.

Eastern Division
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
Mizzou
TCU
Colorado State

Western Division
Air Force
Boise State
New Mexico
San Diego State
UNLV

No way Kansas will end up in the Mountain West. They are too good of a brand. The Big 10 will go after them which luckily for Missouri might drag them along.

I hope the Pac can somehow bring Kansas over Texas Tech. I noticed that the Kansas Texas football game will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network. Texas Tech not only said no, one of their regents publicly stated he didn't ever want a Tech fan to give a dime to the LHN. Maybe Kansas is positioning themselves by allowing their game to be on LHN for a move to the Pac.

If the conference breaks up, KU and MU will end up in the Big 10. Iowa State an Pitt could round them up to 16 as they are natural rivals of two current Big 10 conference members.

I wonder how much revenue Tech brings in by comparison to Kansas? Anyone have any figures?

LOL @ the Big 10 going after KU. Not a chance.

For the 2009-10 reporting period, here is what the two schools filed as their athletic revenues with the government:

KU: $71,881,111

Texas Tech: $48,075,056

Well, throw Tech in with the Mountain West then if they get left out. They fit in there as well.

Don't be so sure. KU is a member of the AAU (American Association of Universities) which seems to be a requirement for Big 10 admission.

It may have been a requirement but not so much now. NU was a member, joined the Big 10 and promptly lost their membership to the AAU! Wouldn't surprise me if the whorns were involved in some way though.

Pretty sure two Big 10 schools even voted against Nebraska retaining AAU status.

Still think it does carry a lot of weight. It's not the only factor they look at, but it's definitely one of them.

LOL @ the big 10 carrying any weight. That region of the country is in a death spiral and there is no reversing it.

Played golf today with a Penn State alum. How many people from Scottsdale you think have relocated to the midwest? zilch. that's how many. Same with Texas and any other growing new age southwest state.

The "rust belt" looks like some of the best farm country I've seen, so I doubt it's in a death spiral. They do need to fix their infrastructure, which is rusting, and figure out what to do now that all the out of work auto and steel workers relocated to Texas along with half of Mexico.

i'm pretty confident the big 12 will survive, but if it doesn't, the mentioned schools will go to the big east.

i suppose there's an off chance mu could get into the sec, but that wouldn't impact isu, ku & ksu to the big east (other than it would suck to lose yet another conference rival).

Have you been paying attention at all?

Doesnt the Big East already have a 16-team basketball league? Are they really going to add 3-4 more?

Pete Thamel New York Times
A high-ranking college official did say Sunday that the Big East had reached out to multiple Big 12 universities and indicated, much as it did during the Texas-Pac-12 expansion talks last year, that the league would be interested in taking the universities if the Big 12 fell apart. The official said the Big East was not rooting for the demise of the Big 12, but opened up lines of communication in case it dissolved.

con't

Other reports have pointed to KU, KSU, ISU and Baylor being the teams referenced.

LOL @ the big east getting the booby prize that is TCU. They are obviously planning to lose West Virginia, Pitt and Notre Dame.
