Sooners know effort, want to must increase to right the ship

See, I just don't get it. All we hear is about how hard this group works, how badly they want to finish, etc. How in the world can effort and "want to" be an issue? What gives?

Teams fall into ruts. It's obvious this team has. The fact that we're only losing by 2 or 3 points tells us how good we will be when we come out of the rut.

Agreed. For the most part, I don't think that is the issue.

Many times with this team you don't see guys going to the floor for loose balls, blocking out for rebounds, etc. That's an effort thing and likely what they're talking about. If we block out on rebounds at the end of games, we have a couple more wins. If Buddy goes to the floor for a loose ball late in the game Wednesday, we win. Those types of "hard work" plays can be the difference.

Ditto.

Humans by nature like to feel they can control situations, so they look for a concrete (correctable) answer to give.

Those kids are giving their all. I don't buy for one second someone isn't trying their hardest.

Also many people don't like to change up things mid stream. What we have been doing has worked well and the guys work hard at it. It is time to analyze what is being done to stop us and make some adjustments. I am sure everyone from the coach on down is looking at film, they are bright young men and with Coach's help I think they will get it figured out. I am sure it is frustrating for them though.

On the last offensive rebound Wednesday night, four OU guys stood and watched the Tech guy get the rebound. Have to sell out.

I think that would be playing too tight, afraid of screwing up, rather than an effort deal.

Again, no one would not give their all the last play of the game.

To me, it's like they've been stunned. Everything they did early in the season worked and now it isn't. Now they're all looking for something to go right, for someone to make a play. Early in the season, they had tons of confidence and everyone made plays. They're trying to figure out how to right the ship.

It's not a matter of effort. It's just a lack of confidence and guys struggling to find an answer. They desperately need something to go right and, I think, when it does, they'll turn it around. It's like so few shots have been going in, they're watching every one, hoping this is the one that gets them turned around. When it misses, everyone on the other team is going after the ball and they're still stuck watching and hoping.

So I guess it is some effort and desire but I think it's borne out of a lack of confidence and frustration.
