Looks like we finally have our first piece of real news in this coaching search. Here's an excerpt:

Two sources close to the OU basketball program, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the Transcript that Marquette coach Buzz Williams tops the Sooners’ wish list.

“He is the guy,” one source said.

Yes.

But I, like Buzz, have ties to this area. Being "home" means a lot to some people. And besides, no matter how much talent he gets at Marquette, every single game is going to be a battle in that league. If he can get similiar talent like that at OU, he'll blow out everybody except KU/UT.

First off, he's from this area. He's basically been recruiting this area from Wisconsin.

Marquette is a private school in a tough conference, and doesn't have the resources, and overall facilities OU has. Now their arena is probably better than ours, but our practice facilities are top notch.

For basketball reasons no. They average over 15k per game and he is recruiting better than OU has. Creen rejected all interest, including OU, until Indiana came calling (a move he probably regrets). The Big East is the beast of basketball, the only conference truly focused on hoops.

For money reasons no. Marquette will easily match whatever OU offers to pay.

So the only reason he says yes is because the kid from Van Alstyne who drove his pickup around OKC and DFW never in his wildest dreams imagined he could be coaching in the OU Texas rivalry. The greatest rivalry in the entire Southwest and top 5 in the nation. And that's a chance a kid from Van Alstyne can't pass up.

Absolutely! Buzz Williams has been my top choice since a few days after Capel was let go. My desire to see him in Norman has intensified with everything I've seen, read or heard about him. I think he is the perfect fit for OU and for our basketball program. I say pay Buzz whatever it takes to get him!

I hope you guys are right....and when our league is no longer, that OU finds or becomes part of a great basketball league.

Our league will not break up. The 3 headed monster of OU, Texas & Kansas will continue to perform on a national level and the money sharing system of the Big XII will continue to benefit the Big 3.

Basketball doesn't really matter. OU/TX/A&M/OSU were probably hours away from breaking up the league and taking our talents to the PAC 10 because of football. Basketball won't factor in if the Big 12 lasts.
