I've been wondering recently if he'd ever get a head coaching job. His name is always mentioned as a top assistant, but I'd never seen him mentioned as a possible head coach.
Should be interesting if nothing else.
He's the second former beak to land a mid-major job this week. Jerod Haase is the new head coach at UAB.

Manning will do well at TU. His name alone will upgrade recruiting 200%. If he can hire a couple of quality assistants to shore up his weaknesses they will quickly be at the top of whatever conference they might be in.
And TU has always been a stepping-stone job so if they can get back to the tourney and Manning hands it over to the next Tubby/Self up-and-comer the Hurricane faithul will be more than happy.

The lesson to be learned for all AD's is (IMO) that if you can't hire a great teacher of the game, get the best damn recruiter you can find. All half measures in hiring lends itself more easily towards mediocrity. I liked Wojcik well enough but you have to be able to be the #2 (behind Memphis) or at the VERY least #3 dog in C-USA, or you aren't getting it done at Tulsa. But especially with the new MW teams coming in, some of which are very solid. I don't know why Manning would be a bad hire. A seemingly 'proven' head coach can tank in recruiting if taken out of his comfort zone. We've see that happen before.
