Saw this on another OU basketball forum. This is from a Gonzaga fan:

"I was browsing the OUHoops.com forums and I don't wish to take the time to register there so I will just post it here.

Ryan Spangler is the most painful GU transfer I can ever recall and it isn't even close.

Some folks are talking about GU's frontline as one of the best in the nation. Olynyk, Harris, Dower, Karnowski.

Despite that depth, I honestly believe that Spangler, had he stayed, would have been in the rotation and been a key player for GU.

The comments I have read in the fore mentioned forum simply do not give Spangler enough justice. Folks are talking as if losing Osby will kill your team and Spangler will be one of those "player by committee" role types that will attempt to fill a huge void.

Let me clue you in.

Spangler is absolutely going to take over and be the key component of your team. This guy is a stud with a capital S.

You really, really don't know what you have. Save this link and reference it a year from now because I am the first to tell you that Spangler will be your MVP. There is no doubt in my mind on this.

It kills me that he transfered back home. I know he was homesick and I can't begrudge the young man, but losing Spangler is going to kill GU next season when Harris graduates and Olynyk gets drafted in the first round.

Spangler is the player that got away. A huge, huge loss for Gonzaga. I am going to be sick watching him tear it up in the Big 12 next year as GU struggles to find a guy that can fill his vacancy."

If he stays all four at ou he would have had four seasons under lon and one under mark few. Think about that for a minute

Anyone that has actually seen him play knows this is overboard. He'll be a nice addition, but never a star.

How do you possibly know whether Spangler will be a star or a nice addition to OU's team? College basketball is filed with guys that took off at the college level and filed with guys that never worked out.

Think Spangler is going to surprise some folks, both in the Big XII, and some of our own OU fans.

And Jeff Capel didn't offer...A kid that lives 20 minutes from the LNC.

Capel didn't need Spangler. He had Goff, the juco player already signed so Capel didn't need Spangler. Think about that for a minute, a local kid who would have committed and signed if offered would have had 5 years to play 4, a good athlete, an exceptional basketball player at a needed position, a good kid, and a good student. However, Capel went for the player who would be here 2 years, if he graduated JUCO which was a huge risk since he wasn't going to class. Goff is now a backup at Marshall and averaging less than 5 points and rebounds per game, he's a non-factor at Marshall.

Stupidity and stubbornness.

The only major conference team to offer Spangler a scholarship was Colorado, so it wasn't just Capel. Hopefully Spangler ends up being great for OU.

Yep.

Spangler wasn't a guy that I blamed Capel for letting get away.

As for what the Zaga fan said above, well, I hope it's true, but outside of a couple of their fans, I've never really heard anybody talk about Spangler as having that much upside.

We'll see.

I had an ISU fan ask me why OU let Tyus McGee get away. Cannot get everyone and sometimes you miss on recruiting.

It becomes a problem when you let it happen too often.

What a surprise! Our resident pretender with his usual hint of a positive, followed by a not-so-subtle dig that speaks volumes about his real intent.

You're not fooling anyone here, especially me.

Colorado was beating us and Colorado had a good coach in Bzdelik and the guy they have now. But that's beside the point, he's a local kid at a position we needed. We offered Tyler Neal for goodness sakes and I bet Spangler is better than Neal. My point is, who we were recruiting wasn't far and away better, or any better at all, than the local product which would have helped with fan support too.

My point stands. And Neal's situation was different because he was honestly filling an empty scholarship, like Cole essentially was guaranteed. And like I said, I hope Spangler is great for OU

If you can't handle basic facts you obviously are a fool.

You don't provide facts, you offer an opinion laced with sarcasm or negativity and expect everyone to buy what you're selling. Well, I'm not buying.
