Spartans have several Sooner ties | East Lansing Journal

Nairn also was expected to follow Hield to Oklahoma to play for Kruger, but Izzo and the Spartans got in late and got him to East Lansing.

If Ulis doesnt go to Kentucky, TumTum is here and Walker isnt...

but we probably dont get Payton Pritchard. Ill take Pritchard.

The adversaries – also friends, by the way – are MSU coach Tom Izzo and Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger. Kruger was Illinois' head coach from 1996 to 2000, leaving to take the Atlanta Hawks job that spring after Izzo turned it down. Izzo was 6-3 vs. Kruger when Kruger was at Illinois.

Coach Kruger's experience coaching against Izzo could be a good thing. It sure can't hurt.

MSU is 5-3 all-time against Oklahoma and 1-0 in the NCAA tournament. Izzo's first Final Four team beat Oklahoma 54-46 in the Sweet 16 in 1999.

A good opportunity to even up the series a bit. You can's beat 'em if you don't play 'em.

i think we would have gotten Pritchard either way

I tend to agree with you...

His latest article mentioned early playing time and family and system as the biggest factors. He expects to come in right away and play a big part (as do I)

Kruger was at Illinois from 96-2000 and that's when the Flintstones were in East Lansing. Not many programs were beating MSU in those days.
