TaShawn Thomas Houston Transfer (Update: Visiting Thursday)

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

That would be great to get Thomas. He only has 1 year to play and could be a great complement to Spangler in the front court.

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

In talking to the OU coaches, Thompson is down to Miami, OU & Arizona.
Thompson is coming in next week to visit. If OU gets him they will
apply to the NCAA for immediate eligibility because he is transferring due
to the fact that the new coach is an acknowledged NCAA violation repeater
Miami has the advantage of his best friend being there. But he and his
father like the idea of coming in to OU and immediately being a starter
with 4 returning starters.

That will be a funny appeal to the NCAA.

Yes, Thomas is leaving Houston b/c their coach is a known cheat, a real scum. Trust us, we know.

lol

If LK thinks he can get him eligible this year, it's probably a solid move. Not sure that reason has ever gotten anybody eligible immediately though. We'll see. Would let us bring Buford along a little more slowly.

That didn't keep him from signing w/ UH in the first place. I guess 3 years playing for Dickey helped him develop a stronger sense of morality.

I was under the impression dickey &/or his family still had a house or lived in Stillwater..

If they don't, I'd rent if I was him...with a 1 year lease, if available. I wouldn't even move my family if they weren't already there. Like leaving the Carpathia for the Titanic, IMO...

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

Just did a little more reading on this kid.

He also averaged 2.7 blocks per game. Had 16/11 and 14/8 in two games against Louisville. Said in an update on an Oregon premium site that there's also a chance he graduates in time to be immediately eligible next season.

A writer from the Houston Chronicle (Joseph Duarted) listed Miami, Oregon and OU as schools he plans to visit. One of his former teammates at Houston (Joe Young) is at Oregon. FWIW.

He's visiting Miami now. You can follow him on twitter here: @taethomas35.

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

Thomas will visit OU on Thursday per ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

So of Thomas says yes does that mean no Allen?

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

After Walker are we down to one scholarship? If so then cannot take both.

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

Would we take Thomas if he had to sit out a year?
And is there anyway we could know whether he could play immediately before taking him?

Because if we took Thomas and Allen, and nothing changed with regards to Thomas's eligibility status, we would only have one ship next year. And would we really want a guy sitting out a year that we can only get one year from?

I think they take both even if thomas has to sit. He's a huge edition even if he sits and then plays the following year. Which would be spangs, buddy, and cousins sr year.
Just have to let things shake out...

My personal opinion is that it would be better to NOT take him if he has to sit next year, but LK may not have the option of knowing for sure.

They've put A LOT of work into the 2015 class to go into it with only one available scholarship.

I think more than one will be available. Always a surprise...

If we have a chance to bring in Grandstaff and Milton, we will find a comparable academic scholarship for Cole. And I agree ... bringing in such a big class this year will mean that we're probably losing one next year.

I'm not for jerking Cole around at any level. The kid has enough potential to have a chance of contributing some. However, they are continuing to recruit over him. He is really a smart guy and with 3 academic years (w/summer school) he might graduate in 3 yrs. If that is the case, Kruger would have fulfilled his obligation to him and would be free to move on with that athletic scholarship.

Re: TaShawn thomas (Houston transfer)

He's cancelled his visit to Oregon and it's down to OU and Miami.
