They beat #18 UNM last night, and also beat #11 UNLV. They are 17-11 on the year. They just beat UNM by about 20.

They are only 1 game out of a tie for first place in a Mountain West league that has 3 ranked teams. If they beat Wyoming (road) and San Diego State (home) they will finish 19-11 with wins over 3 ranked teams. They lost at Boise State with 0.9 seconds left or they would be 18-10 right now and riding a 5 game winning streak.

How long do you guys think it will take TCU to get going in the Big 12? It looks like they have some nice pieces going into next year with Kyan Anderson, Charles Hill, Amric Fields, and Garlon Green. But, ya know, they are 17-11 in a much weaker league and lost to Boise State and SMU recently.

I don't think it will take them too long. They are stepping up in class and will have to be good every week in the Big 12. But, they seem to have an established mid major program.

Their athletic dept. revenue will go up and so will their basketball recruiting budget. Being in the Big 12 will give them a chance to recruit a better class of player. So, in a couple of years, they shouldn't be at any particulat disadvantage.

I think it will take them a few years to be consistent year in and year out, but they've got such a strong recruiting ground.

I didn't realize the old Sutton assistant, Rob Evans, is on that TCU staff. He had a decent run at Ole Miss and ASU. He is a good coach.

I think they are going to lose a lot in both football and basketball. I think they will be the weakest program in the Big XII. Other teams might be worse one year or another but as an AD, I think they will be the worst in the conference.

No way.

They will be considerably better than ISU and TT, if we're talking overall athletic departments. Or at least the main sports. TCU football isn't on the OU/UT level, but they are right below it. They'll need to recruit better depth. Basketball? I have no idea what their program will look like in a few years.

Disagree.

Men's bball is still down, but football will be very competitive, they are a fringe College World Series team this year (as they were last year after making to to Omaha two years ago) and their women's bball team is pretty solid under Coach Mittie (.674 winning percentage at TCU, 13/15 seasons they made it to the NCAA tournament or NCAA and has never had a losing season as a HC at any level). Not expecting them to rack up conference championships, but to downplay their athletic department is being misinformed.

You are assuming their recruiting will be as good as it has been. I am assuming it will get worse. Why would a recruit go to TCU over Tech or ISU now? I see zero reason and I think TCU's recruiting will suffer. Obviously I could be wrong as that nobody actually knows what will happen.

In what sport? But either way, my answer would be to stay closer to home, or to play near the DFW metroplex. I don't think TCU will have any problems convincing kids to stay home, rather than go to Iowa.

I'm worried that in some instances, you could replace Iowa with OU. I think TCU will hurt OU a little in all sports. Maybe not though.

Agree...They will be the Baylor of old. Basketball wise...they are screwed. Football wise...They will never be better than 3rd in conference. At least not for a very long time.

I think that is why you are seeing Bob place an emphasis on national recruiting. With aTm joining the SEC, and TCU joining the big boys in the Big 12, recruiting the state of Texas just got a little bit tougher.

Where do you think TCU recruits now?

I don't see it getting harder to recruit against TCU, I see it easier. Right now TCU sells winning or competing for a conference championship and potentially playing in a BCS game. That is not going to happen in the Big XII. Texas and OU are going to beat TCU 90% of the time or more. They are going to lose other games in conference play. I think the shine is going to wear off that penny pretty quickly.

I guess we look at that differently. To me, it's easier to sell a kid on playing in the Big 12, playing games close to home, playing against the big boys, AND winning conference and national championships.....then it is to sell a kid on playing in a crappy conference, where most home games are no where close to home, and having no NC chance at all. Now TCU gets to go up to those kids, tell them they will play half their league games within a 4-6 hour drive from home, and that if they win enough, they will certainly play for NC's.

OU has been a power in football becuase of an ability to rake up talent in North Texas, adding a school closer to home in the same conference is not going to help matters. Not saying that OU isn't still going to get plenty of Texas talent, but it just got harder.

As for basketball specifically, OU was never really that big in Texas that I can remember, but I wish we were more of a presence now that Texas is getting better in basketball, particularly in the Metroplex. A recruit here and there will not hurt football, but in basketball, I just don't like it. More games, closer to the Metroplex, play in Texas, etc. could make a difference in hoops.

In any sport, there are Elite Schools and then there is everyone else. In Basketball, Its Duke, Kentucky, UNC, UCLA, Kansas, UConn. In Football Its USC, Florida, OU, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan.(There are few I didnt mention) Thats why when you see the top athletes every year...no matter where their from...they have these teams on their list. They may choose to stay close to home or go to some other college but these teams are on those kids list because they are the best programs in the country for their sport. TCU can tell those kids anything they want to hear...in the end, when OU and Tex comes to those same kids homes and offers them a chance to go to OU or Texas...it will end up having the same effect on those kids that it has for so many years...No matter what conference TCU joins or even what conference Baylor joins. Thats why it doesn't matter if Notre Dame joins a conference or not...b/c an offer from Notre Dame means more than an offer from TCU.

I disagree. TCU plays in a legit conference now. I'm not saying they will win a lot of recruiting battles with OU/UT, but they will win some. If OU landed 90% of the recruits we went up against TCU for before, maybe that number drops to 80%. Or 70%. OU loses recruits ALL THE TIME to schools that don't have our history. I think it's funny when OU fans think we should get any recruit we offer just b/c we are OU. It doesn't work that way. Just look at some of the kids we lost out on last year, and where they ended up.

They win some now. I just don't see it as an issue. I see TCU having very little impact on OU. If anything it will help OU recruit DFW because OU will not play 1.5 games in the DFW area every season.

We don't think we will get every recruit we offer. Baylor and Kansas and Iowa State have been in the league for a long time and they haven't hurt us in recruiting. If a kid wants to stay close to home, they will choose Baylor, Kansas, TCU...but if a player wants to play for an elite program...they choose OU, Tex, USC, etc...
