Chris Beard, 10 year assistant to Bob Knight at Texas Tech.... Beard went 30-5 with Arkansas Little Rock, beat Purdue in the opening round of the NCAA Tournamnet, and then signed a $900,000 contract with UNLV... now he is talking to Texas Tech about their opening.

UNLV is a better job than Texas Tech. Although there is something weird going on at UNLV which may be why he's looking to bail. They are losing something like 6 underclassmen to the draft this year, most of whom shouldn't be jumping.

Beard is a West Texas guy, coached at Tech for a number of years under Bob Knight. His daughters all live near the the Lubbock area.

I wonder if he'll take a pay cut to go to Lubbock since TT will have to pay a buyout to UNLV.

This guy will be portrayed as a scoundrel on the recruiting trail. He's been courting transfers like crazy since he took the job in Vegas.

I just confirmed, 5 underclassmen entering the draft. Something rotten going on in Vegas, would not touch him if I was Tech.

Have you seen UNLV's roster. They don't have anyone coming back. 3 underclassmen declared for the draft. They have 2 or 3 transferring. 3 seniors.

He has to recruit transfers this late in the game or he won't have a team next year.

I know that. And Beard should've known that when he took the job. If he takes the Tech job, how could he not expect negative recruiting to greet him at every turn? How could he be trusted?

I don't get how he could get negative recruiting. He's been at the job for a like a week. Whats the difference between him taking the job at Tech and someone like Dixon taking the job at TCU? What are coaches going to say. Don't go to Tech, he might leave in a week?

I think there's a little bit of a difference between a coach whose previous stop lasted 14 seasons and another whose most recent stop may not last 14 days.

But you like to play Devil's Advocate, so good luck.

I don't see where the negative recruiting is going to come into effect. I would like to hear another coach say to a recruit...don't go to Tech, he was only at UNLV for a week.

He's going to have a tough enough job recruiting to tech anyways.

You realize he literally JUST left Arkansas-Little Rock this past month, right?

Look at the Arizona State football coach, who was at Pitt for one season. Ask him if he's dealt with negative recruiting. He at least stayed 1 full season, not just 2 weeks.

I do agree with your last line though. He will have a tough job recruiting to Tech. That's why Tubby left I'm sure.

Seriously!? You don't see the difference between the two situations?

Also, while he may not leave TTech in a week, it's not a tough sell to say he'd leave them at the drop of a hat. Then again, if he's leaving a superior basketball gig to coach at one of the two worst basketball schools in the Big XII, perhaps he can sell that to a recruit as a reason for sticking around Lubbock, TX.

Todd Graham.... slimy sunuva-B

He was a repeat offender, as well.

He took the Rice job in 2006, promised the world to his players, coached one mildly successful season and demanded a raise and an extension.

All of that is stock, standard coaching etiquette these days.

But during good-faith face to face contract negotiations with Rice, he took "bathroom breaks" to get on the phone with Tulsa (same conference, same DIVISION) and play the schools off of one another. 2 days later he was out the door to T-town - without so much as a word to his players

On Beard - I'm told that only AFTER hiring him, UNLV announced that the school is undergoing major budget cuts, and his program funding would be slashed in a big way. That's enough cause to look around, I think.

I think you guys are making kids out to be really naive. If they don't go there, I would guarantee it has nothing to do with his 1 week stay at UNLV.

I'm sorry coach, I'm not going to be a red raider b/c you only stayed one week at UNLV. You are a flight risk.
