The 4 Freshmen / First Game / @ Memphis

In a 34-point home win against a La-Monroe team that went 4-23 on the season.

Wrong game - OkieNole was referring to the first road game. Against UTA in Arlington: http://espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=323210250. A surprisingly close 63-59 win against a UTA team that went 19–14 on the season.

I was there, and remember being really impressed with Buddy then (17 points to lead the team).

Not to take away anything from Buddy, but Memphis on the road in front of a big crowd was a much tougher environment for this group of freshmen. Like usedtobe1 said, Jamuni and Khadeem had a tough night. But in view of the extreme venue and the pressure they must have felt, I think they deserve a pass. Dante and Christian performed admirably throughout the game. If they continue to progress at the current rate, they will not be "freshmen" much longer.

Hopefully AK will play this year and get some more competition in that 5 spot. Theres no reason to give the big men excuses b/c we have way better competition ahead of us then the team we just played. The way they are calling fouls, Spangler can't do it all.

I'm of the opinion that people may really be underestimating how difficult of a task it was to go to Memphis to begin the season. A Memphis team ou was 0-6 all time against with some major talent, albeit young, especially in the front court. It's hard to gauge this early, but they have the look of a tournament team to me.

As others have mentioned, this was a game we probably lose last season. If you remember, Woodard (and others) had several opportunities to win games last season with open looks late but seemed to barely rattle out every time.

Talk about incredible experience early on in the season for the freshmen players, too. They all had some positive moments and fr moments, but Buford's rebounding was one of the key stats of the game. James looked like he is ready to contribute early.

Pumped to get this one! Boomer!
I agree but I will say I think they need to shoot better from 3 to make the tournament. Regardless that was a solid team.

Do we face way better competition?

Memphis had at least two top 50 players in their front court because I saw it on the TV. We might face better competition but I am certain it is going to be way better. To me way better is top 20-50 compared to bottom 150 in college basketball. Those bottom teams have little chance of winning. Memphis is a team that can probably beat some of the better teams in college basketball.

I think Memphis is probably a top 50 team, top 75 worst case. They have athletes on that team.

I thought the four freshmen was a musical group.

I like what I saw from each of the four. While James and Buford seem to have started well, I suspect that we be pleased with the others.

I do remember the first game of Alvan Adams. Isn't 28 still the rebounding record for OU?

Memphis lost their stud to a transfer.

Nova, Baylor, KU, ISU, LSU, and WV will be better in the post.

Memphis is good..I'm just saying, we have some tough competition this year in the post coming up.

I am not disputing that teams will be better but you said way better. I don't think OU will see teams that are way better. I also don't know that I agree all of those teams will be better in the post. I would actually have to look into that statement because Memphis' starters were pretty good.

I think this will be counted as one of the better games of the year for their posts.

the true frosh big man Is a stud .. like top 15 nba pick stud (and I don't mean this year necessarily)

James has been playing well and will be a good one for sure. I wouldn't call him fearless just yet, I definitely saw him hesitate on a few drives, you could see him still "thinking" out there. But with the playing time he is getting and with his instincts he'll get over that quickly.
