The real question: Why Should Capel Survive?

Should Capel Survive?

Holy SH*T!!

Are you seriously starting another thread about Capel's future, soliciting peoples' opinions?
Do you have amnesia?
Have you not see the dump yard of threads with every single opinion stated?

I agree. It's not really a question anyone can answer well. First time to have back to back losing seasons in 45 years. This is drastic. It's not like we just missed the NCAA Tournament a couple years. I'm supposed to believe that a guy who averaged a few points and a couple rebounds and a guy who is putting up marginal numbers in junior college are going to take the program to high places? What will that be? The NIT?

If Capel is given another year, what should the expectation be? Is a winning season with a cream puff schedule going go be considered progress? Or is the NCAA Tournament the expectation? Next year is year 6. If Castiglione is not convinced the NCAA Tournament is where we will be next year, it's time to move on.

Don't click on the thread then.

What the hell else are we suppose to talk about? Whether Jeff keeps his job or not is probably the biggest question surrounding OU basketball in at least the last 5 years.

About the only thing that says to me that Capel survives is the history of Joe Castiglione telling me he's going to probably stay.

Yeah, don't click on the thread. That's a great argument for most topics, but when the predominance of threads are just beating the same dead horse, it is no longer a matter of "then don't read it", it is, instead, try to find something else to click (which has become ever so seriously more difficult).

So basically you want to forget about the ugly big elephant in the room because you don't like it that much. That may be how it works with some things like the national debt to our politicians today. But that's not how it works in a free society. The Jeff Capel thing is the story in OU basketball right now.

I don't think making it a sticky is the equivalent of wanting "to forget about" it.

It is the biggest story, it is not the only story. The whole program is made of people and there are stories about them. There are all sorts of things that can be discussed about players, past and present and their futures regardless of what happens or who coaches them next year. Starting a new thread every half hour doesn't advance the conversation, it just clutters the board with the same opinions over and over and over.

If the fans, school, and administration dont care about basketball, then yes, he should be retained.

“Finishing 14-18, the Sooners have compiled back-to-back losing seasons for the first time in 45 years ...”

If Jeff returns next season, he can go for a new record ... number of empty seats inside the LNC.

But, what should we expect?

At his point, I would consider that a positive accomplishment for the program. What about going for the ZERO offensive rebounds in a game record? With all of the fence sitters (going back and forth rubbish) I am beginning to change my mind. After all, Jeff is a wonderful guy. None of this is his fault. His 5 year record at OU should not be held against him. It's just not fair. Did I say he is a nice guy?

This mess reminds me of the JB situation. 3 WINS. 4 WINS. 5 WINS. One more year and he would have been bowl eligible. Looking back on it, poor JB got the shaft. 13 WINS. 14 WINS. 15 WINS? NIT?

What happened to Nick's icon/pic? lol

“The enemies you make by taking a decided stand generally have more respect for you than the friends you make by being on the fence”
