To lose by 20 to that Texas Tech team is probably worse than anything that this program has experienced since Sampson left. That Tech team was 0-11, looking like they were never going to win, has 10 new players, etc and they ran OU out of the gym.

Any team with Luke Adams on the floor for extended minutes should never win a Big 12 game. He's like a smaller Keiton Page without the shot or the handles.

I have to ask...where did you get your avatar pic? Is it doctored or is that Al in somebody else's gym shorts and shoes? Cracks me up every time.:ez-laugh:

found the picture on the interwebs, it is doctored, I believe the feet are actually either Boomer or Sooner's. If you look real close you will see that the legs are costume fur.

sampson was a great coach. i hope he makes it back to college bball, somewhere.

One reason Sampson was able to win 20 games each year is because for a large part of his time at OU, Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas Tech were bad like this years Tech team is.

But he never lost to those teams that flirted with 0-16. I don't remember a Big 12 loss worse than this one in my lifetime.

It's not so much the loss, but the way we lost to a team that is likely to go winless the rest of the way.

I said before the game started that OU cannot assume an 0-8 TTU team will be a pushover on their home floor. Last night's game was a classic case of playing down to the competition, and it cost us. The Sooners were thoroughly outplayed and outworked by an inferior team. Tech hit a few shots, got the lead, and when OU failed to respond, you could just see the their confidence grow with every possession.

If this was not the worst performance in my memory as an OU basketball fan, it has to rank near the top somewhere. Downright embarrassing, that's what it was!

The Big 8 and Big XII were strong basketball conferences during Sampson's tenure. I don't know why people need to make excuses for OU success in the past. In the early part of this century, OU, Texas, KU and OSU all went to the final four. Missouri went to the Great 8 and ISU earned a No. 1 seed to the NCAA Tournament with two conference championships. Tech had Bob Knight as a coach and was going to the tournament.

Capel absolutly sucked as a coach.

I figured abd would be patting himself on the back for pumping up Tech and how great a hire Gillespie was before the season started.

That's so inaccurate on all fronts. Get a clue.

aTm was crappy, but had talent. They just had terrible coaching. Baylor was a fringe NCAA tourney team before the murder happened and Tech was really good with Dickey right before the big 12 started and the first few years of the league had some decent teams. Then they fell off for a few years and Knight was hired and they started going to the NCAA tourney for 5 or 6 straight years or so.

In 99 or 98, we lost to aTm at CS and I think that was their only conference win of the season.

Let me preface this, my post has zero to do with Sampson

These are the records for those teams the first 5 years of the Big 12

Tech
19-9 (all conference games were forfeited FWIW)
13-14
13-17
12-16
9-19

A&M
9-18
7-20
12-15
8-20
10-20

And those A&M teams did not have "talent"

Baylor
18-12
14-14
6-24
14-15
19-12 (NIT)

The next two years Baylor went 14-16 and 14-14 and then the next summer Dennehy was murdered.

So, overall, 0 NCAA tourney appearances, 1 NIT, 3 winning seasons combined out of 15 seasons. Those teams were mediocre at best and overall poor.
