Transfers Possible

7’3 kid from Purdue but guessing long long shot.


I think I like Gibson kid from UNT. article by ou guy.

Gibson is leaving UNT because he want to play PG. Not sure why he would want to come to OU and sit behind Bieniemy and potentially Harmon, or play the 2 next to JB. We all know Lon isn't going to move JB to the 2 or bring him off the bench the next 2 years. This also creates an interesting position for Harmon who likely won't start at the 1 until his SR year.

If true, that is another reason I'd prefer Lon move along.

Harmon should be the starting pg for the next three years. JB can fight for minutes at the 2, or as the backup pg.
 
Doesn't matter in our offense or with both Harmon and JB out there. They both bring the ball up, set up offense, all of that.. Guessing both guys don't care and just want to be on the court.
Lon seemed to like and use Reaves, Harmon and JB lineup the most and I bet he will do that again next season. The real battle is Williams vs Harmon for the minutes.
 
JB greatest strength is thought to be his defense. Yet, the photo in the UNC link I posted shows Gibson beating him off the dribble. How do I know that? There is no way JB can recover from the position he’s in.

We all know Jamal struggles on offense. I hope he improves because I really like the kid, always have. But if he wants to be a starter next season, he better be prepared to prove he’s our best option. IMO, the jury is still out on that question.
 
Third guard spot should be up for grabs between Jamal and Alondes. Jamal needs to shoot better and Alondes needs to defend better.

The strength of his game is everything except scoring. He does everything else well. Passing and running the team are huge parts of offense and he doesn’t struggle in those areas.

Jamal is good but not great in those areas. You may not agree, but I think he was a bit of a disappointment in what most of us thought he would be in his second season.

I’m certainly not ruling out a significant jump in his game next season. In fact, I’m expecting it. But if we use one of our ships on a guard, I hope it’s someone like Gibson who can compete for JB’s starting spot, and maybe even take it away from him if he doesn’t improve.

As an aside, JB had 3 points in 33 minutes against UNT last year, Gibson had 21 points in 31 minutes. I’m not sure if that proves anything?

FWIW Neither of them really "ran" the offense. They dribbled the ball up the floor and passed off to Doo or Reaves to initiate the offense and then stand in the corner. However Harmon is more of a creator type of PG than JB, where as JB is more of a ball control PG. Both play good defense with JB being a little more versatile.

Also, their stat lines were pretty comparable this season. The major differences are JB's better Rebounding/FT%/Ast & Harmons better 3pt%. Harmon however took almost 3x as many FT's as JB. All other categories were pretty much a wash.

In my opinion....Harmon is the guy you want starting and creating for your primary options. JB is the guy you want steadying the second unit.
 
Recruit over any player that you can = winning conference record!
 
Didn’t make Rice transfer Murphy’s final list.

Any word on Williams? I know there’s been mention on here about him possibly transferring because of all the guard targets.

I checked with my guy and staff doesn't anticipate anymore transfers.
