Tulsa

I have liked Maddie's play the last two games. That being said, with the exception of Carter I like the starting 5.

Maddie seems to excel coming off the bench. She has been a more complete player and more effective that way. She does seem to score better coming off the bench too.

I don't know what's up with Carter. Disappointing season for her so far, I think.

I believe Mulkey will get some solid minutes in Vegas against better teams.

I agree that the ladies seem to be getting comfortable with each other with the line-ups and sub patterns we have seen lately.

I think Vibi was under the weather today. Really looked tired and out of it. They did collapse on her a lot too.

Between now and Big 12 play will continue to be critical for tweets and adjustments., as we all know.

I like this team better than any in the last several years.

I think the team has a real chance to do something this year.

A couple of things stood out today that I hadn't really noticed. I think of Maddie as tall, and her length makes her a problem for the defense to guard, as well as for the opposition to shoot over or avoid with passes. But, standing next to Nancy under the basket, she looks like a little kid.

Anyone who didn't think Nancy had a chance to be a superstar had not really seen her move. She is not some clumsy tall player. She moves well and very precisely. Her hands are precisely where the shot will be, not just waving randomly in the air. She can get pretty good position. By the time she finishes learning, she will be difficult to handle.

With Nancy and Chelsea, this year's recruiting class is looking really good. I hope Maddie decides to stay a year (assuming that they do give her a medical redshirt). With five other seniors leaving, we need all of the experience we can get next year. Our juniors are Vivi, LaNesia, and Gabbi.

So is it possibly true that awarding tulsa a gift two points is the correct call? If so there's a loophole that needs to be closed. In second half we had the ball they stole it and we fouled them. It was the 5th foul of the qtr but the zebras missed it and gave Tulsa the ball side out. They go down and in about 10 seconds they score. Zebra then blows the whistle the three of them discuss it one of them i guess realized they had screwed up. So the girl who was fouled goes to the FT line with no one else there, like a technical, and shoots 2 ft which she makes. But they don't take the basket off the board. So it's a four point play. WTF? What if it was a close game and we lost by one or two? If that is a correct interpretation of the "correctable error" rule it needs to be fixed.

I agree. Can you imagine if that happened in a close NCAA tournament game - to Baylor???????

Love seeing Nancy improve from one game to the next. The big girl's ability is truly starting to reveal itself.

Having said that, Nancy needs to work hard at being strong with the ball when she gets her hands on a rebound and/or pass. She had rebounds taken away from her on multiple occasions against TU, and she also failed to control a couple of passes that were up where she could get them.

Hopefully, if that is a problem, it will take care of itself as her strength and conditioning improve.

Sherri may have cut Carter and Edwards minutes to let them know they need to stop taking so many risks. Hope so. We are still taking bad shots and making bad passes that are more bad judgment than any thing else. Big 12 foes will make us pay for those things. A bad shot is almost as bad as a turnover.

Appears that Mulkey is expanding her offensive game. Agree she needs to play stronger. Like to see her on the high post more. She can score from there and probably make good passes to the low post. Agree that we may have defensive problems with her and another big in the game. May be able to get away with a zone where she can guard the middle. That would allow us to put more pressure on the outside.

Like what Dungee is doing. Hope she doesn't morph into the high risk stuff that many of our players get into.

More movement on offense against Tulsa. Liked that. Would like to see more.

Agreed. Beck, the color person on broadcast, said that Nancy told her that the game previously (UTRGV) really boosted her confidence level and it showed again yesterday. She has really made great strides just in 9 games and looks a LOT better than any of the high school clips I had seen. She really is pretty quick for a 6'9" person.

You're right about the hands and I'm sure she will continue to work hard on that. She also gets pushed around a little and will have to work on that. I'm not sure she'll ever gain enough weight to stop being pushed around but she will adapt in different ways.

What I saw was a couple of times early in the game in which Nancy got the rebound, and it was taken from her.

---later, it seemed that she took more care to secure her rebounds?
---I have seen the same thing happen to Vivi, not as often.
---let's see if it continues, or whether our concern (stoked by attitudes that had warned us that she needed strength) was premature

I also saw that Vivi and EJ kept getting trapped and tried to find a way to get a shot off, only to lose it to the guards that were trapping them. Their attempts to pass out were nearly always intercepted.

The sample size is small. But, when Nancy was trapped, she did get the ball to Maddie who cut in front, leaving a clear path to the rim. That should be there a lot if they surround the post with three. But, someone needs to cut to help the post. I'll wait to see if this is a trend.

About four times in the past three games, Maddie has made a weak pass to someone who moved after she began the pass, leaving her with no place to throw it. At least three times, it was the post who thought Maddie was shooting and turned to rebound. A couple of times, it was a guard who moved after she began the passing motion.

It was interesting that Nancy was still looking for the pass when Maddie drove the baseline. She wasn't looking to rebound. She was watching the ball, and it came right to her for a short layup. Again, the sample size is small. To some extent, the double entry pass by Gabbi was a bit of this. Gabbi's entry pass was blocked back to her, and she caught it and immediately threw it back to Nancy for a layup. Would Vivi and EJ have had their backs turned?

Our posts are not getting it out for wide open threes. Is it that they have been instructed to work for the shot, cutting down on the number of three attempts? Unfortunately, they are taking too long, and they are getting trapped.

I am in agreement with the one announcer who said point guards don't need to be driving the lane unless it is clear. We had how many charges?

I think the only thing that cut into TT's time was the fact that she has been in foul trouble. She had four in eleven minutes against Tulsa, two from charging.
