Underwood headed to Illinois

This from an OSU board:

Let's not BBQ Holder just yet. If Underwood came to me wanting a raise, I'd ask him to justify it. He'd probably say - I finished 5th in the best league, and I made the tournament.

As Holder I would say - you finished 5th in the league, that's average, you finished 9-9 with only one win against the top 4 and 2 losses against the bottom 5, you lost the first game of the tournament against a 7th place team, your defense was one of the worst in the country, you started 0-6 and ended 0-4. I know they weren't your players, but let's talk after you get your players. If you don't like it (small or no raise?), go sell yourself to someone else.

I don't think that would be an unfair position by Holder. I do think it would be a little premature for Underwood to demand a HUGE raise.

If this is indeed the case, I don't think it is an unreasonable position for Holder to take.

Can't blame Underwood for leaving either. He's getting 3+ million a year for 6 years. Next year, he'd be set to make 1.1 million. Why in the hell would you stick around a place when you can TRIPLE your salary?

If Holder truly said you don't deserve a raise, then don't be upset or mad when said coach leaves you for something better.

That hasn't been the problem. Smart and Evans were pretty highly regarded

I think historically the recruiting at Stillwater has been pretty good during and since Eddie. They recruit to stillwater pretty well.

At any other school, a golf pro would not be put in charge of a $50 million business. And even if he were, he would've been fired for poor performance long ago.

But stillborn is not any other school. One would think that a benefit of whoring out to Pickens would be unlimited funds. However, apparently that isn't the case. Stupid stupid Aggies.

Booger specified Holder had to become AD before he would give them the big bucks. I think they had been in bed together for quite a few years. I think Booger was investing for Holder. They are both a-holes, thus the mutual attraction.

I think its funny everyone thinks osu just lost this deal horribly... He got a freakin 10 seed lol

It's funny because OSU just got put in their place as Brad Underwood used their coaching position as one year stepping stone. I know everyone loves to rip on Capel, but he could have had his choice of a number of good jobs after the Blake Griffin Elite 8 run with a top 10 recruiting class coming in, and he chose to stay at OU. Dude just bolted OSU the first chance a decent team offered him a job.

That being said, I think they could still upgrade. I'm not sold on Underwood being some great coach. I would like the Gottlieb hire a lot if they make it. It's risky, but could pay huge dividends.

would put odds they hire gotlib as a reaction to underwood taking off after a year instead of doing a real search....I don't see that ending well

If you were a high school kid would you sign with a guy who had never coached college basketball before?
