Underwood headed to Illinois

You don't think Crean can coach? He'd be a very nice get for OSU.

He's a great coach. I'm sure he can do better. Honestly, I think everyone on that list is either already at someplace better or can hold out for something better than OSU. Except Gottlieb who has shown no evidence whatsoever that he can either recruit or coach at this level.

Maybe Lorenzo Romar. Maybe a guy at an SEC school who's stuck because his athletic department only cares about football. Maybe the guy who turned around the New Orleans program. Maybe an assistant at a good program. Probably a guy who's running out of time to be successful where they are. I fail to see how they're going to trade up from Underwood who's very good but I also don't see how they're going to have to go for a college basketball analyst with little to no experience.

They'd be better off hiring Brandon Roy who is the Porters' high school coach and played in the NBA for many years.

OSU should call:

Bill Self
Tim Jankovich
Tom Crean
Eric Musselman
Guy from Virginia Tech, forgot his name
Danny Manning
Kelvin Sampson

If none of those guys want to coach at OSU, call Doug Gottlieb.

Based on MH/Booger's history, I'm not sure any of these would be interested in a gig in Stoolwater. Unless they pay lots of money, and again, based on history, this isn't going to happen. I'm sure the word is out (in case anyone didn't know!) that MH and Booger are a-holes! And cheap!

He is a hell of a coach. However, nobody knows if he can recruit which is just as important if not more. It's like a sports radio show host told me yesterday at a St Patricks Day party, Underwood just reset his shot clock with this move. His recruiting to OSU was not very good and neither was it very good at SFA.

If in 4 years he's out at Illinois because they find out he can't recruit, he doesn't need to work another day in his life.

This seems largely exaggerated to me. He recruited fine this year, especially considering the state of the program. It was about par with Lon's average haul, and was likely to improve (assuming he actually is a great coach). Nobody recruits well at SFA, so that's not relevant.

No I don't think he is special or that good of a coach. Someone called him a great coach.....are you effing kidding me? He had Duane Wade at Marquette and had success while Wade was there. At Indiana (a blue blood), he made the tournament four times in 9 years and never past the Sweet 16.

I would gladly take Crean at OSU....not the least bit impressed.

Buzz Williams, think this would be a great hire but he's on contract through 2023 making $3 million.

Crean would never live in Stillwater. He's a big metropolitan area kind of guy. You say, well Bloomington isn't a big metropolitan area but it's close to plenty of big metropolitan areas. Stillwater is 4 hours from Dallas and 5 hours from KC. Also, IU is a blue blood and OSU is not.

I don't see Kelvin Sampson taking that job and they wouldn't offer it to him anyway. Same for Danny Manning.

They will have to hire an asst coach if Self doesn't take it or Gottlieb will be the option.

I hope Holder stays at OSU until he's 90.

People are living longer these days...with any luck, he'll make it to 100 and never retire in the process. That was my hope for the Longhorns previous AD, but sadly, the school was smart enough to fire him.

Holder is Booger's hemorrhoid! He's an a** and thinks he knows more than anyone else and doesn't care what anyone else thinks! O-Stank sold their souls to the devil and deserve all the BS they receive!

Word out of Stillwater is that Underwood didn't get along with Holder. I don't doubt that for a minute, but I'm sure the extra $2 million in salary had a lot to do with it too.

That being said, I think they could still upgrade. I'm not sold on Underwood being some great coach. I would like the Gottlieb hire a lot if they make it. It's risky, but could pay huge dividends.

If you aren't sold on underwood being a great coach (i'm not either), then what would you call gottlieb?

sounds like it was more of some comments that Holder made that turned him off. Money had to do with it as well, but this is ALL on holder and him not having a high expectation for osu basketball.

They are screwed. They won't be able to go after a big name and will have to settle for another lower tier coach and hope he is the real deal

When you hear poeple talk about how they don't negotiate new contracts during season this exactly why. He absolutely has a right to triple his salary. However both he and Holder should have known better than to let this come to s head before the season was over. They could have saved this pissing match until after the season
