We have a new verbal commitment

Its starting to look more and more like the team will be playing smallball in 2018-2019....

Only trouble with playing smallball is when the taller teams can out run your smalls down the court.

syb,
failures in recruiting become liabilities on the court.
spin it however you want.
until Sherri recruits better and more consistently year over year. OU's not catching
Baylor and stands a good chance of falling behind others.
but go ahead and laud Sherri signing a five player class of 5-9 guards.
That's what you do.

The guards that we lost to graduation or transfer were:
in conference play
FG%
37.9%
40.7%
34.7%
41.0%
42.9%

3PT%
33.0%
32.3%
27.5%
27.3%
38.9%

Incidentally, Manning was 43.0 and 46.0%. Ortiz was 38.7 and 36.8%.

We need better shooters than hitting 27-33% from three and less than 40% from the field. It is difficult to pull people away from the rim if you can't hit some kind of shot. It is about scoring.

It seems that Sherri is recruiting scorers. Hopefully, they can do other things. If you have someone who can create, it means that you can toss it to a shooter, and they will have sufficient time.

Perhaps making an invalid comparison if you are using Robertson's shooting percentages at a 4A Kansas high school to infer she can shoot at the D-1 level.

No question that OU needs some perimeter shooters but at best the book has to still be out on Robertson as a shooter in the B-12 unless you have some data confirming her shooting at a high level against top quality AAU competition.

We know that Tatum has performed at a very high level against the best competition in the country. At this point in time we have little to substantiate what Robertson brings to the table.

I don't think Sherri is avoiding getting top quality front court players I just think she cannot find any that wants to play for OU. While OU has had some top quality bigs in the past it has been way in the past.

Might be a little stretch to declare that OU has had some of the better interior players in history when we have really had only one, Courtney and she graduated in 2008. Since Courtney we have had Abi, Nicole, KK and Vivi none of which history we recall as great none of which was even first team All Big 12. KK, Vivi, and MacFarland did make second team, KK twice.

Ashley and Amanda did make first team once but that is far from some of the better ones in history unless you are restricting yourself to OU history.

You are kind of glossing over the fact that Abi did make it to the Final Four without Courtney. The others that you cite were pretty good. There may have been one better in the conference, and this conference has had some pretty good bigs. But, they are good enough to win if you have a team around them.

We didn't think that much of Vivi when we recruited her. But, she has become a pretty good player. I was far more disappointed in the lack of scoring from outside than by the lack of productivity in the post. I think our leading scorer in conference play was our post.

We don't know who we might get. We do know that Sherri is talking to some posts and forwards. Given the opportunity that will exist, I figure that one will step up.

I am more interested in the fact that we seem to be recruiting girls who can shoot and score---at least at their current level. We only know Tatum because of AAU. We don't know Murcer and Robertson yet. Gatorade POY isn't bad, and I don't know that we had anyone who could hit 54% of her threes unguarded in practice last year, and they don't guard free throws.

Simpson is listed on the roster as 6'0" and at 6'1" on some recruiting websites. Is she going to be more of a Brittany Martin/Nina Davis type of forward that is somewhat undersized but gets a lot of rebounds through anticipation and hustle?

Welcome aboard, Taylor. Looking forward to watching you play at OU starting in 2018.

I thought Sherri was going to sign post players 1 and 2 in the nation.
Is it sinking in yet that recruiting at certain key positions is not going well at all.

Jones never even visited OU.
I watched Kittle and Patton operate this way for 3 years. Tanking OU OL recruiting, until Bob made a huge change.

It's almost August OU has no bigs, no bigs last year. And lost their only big from 2 classes ago.
There's very little talent at JUCO. I cannot name the last time OU added a JUCO starter. There's no transfer redshirting even though this summer was full of talented players.

Sherri got some potential stars at guard/wing in Tatum/Shaina (have to be careful reading too much into international player, but the signs are positive)/Llanusa.
It's going to be a shame if they have no athletes to help them inside and on the boards.

atlanta, I've had it with your constant negativity. I took everyone on the women's board off of Ignore. I'm putting you back on. Do you have a life beyond criticizing Sherri?

sybarite,
If reality is negative that's not my fault. I'm sorry it damages your carefully crafted WorldView.
I've done nothing but praise the additions of Llanusa, been very hopefully Pellington is a steal, and indicated that I think Tatum is an elite pickup. Murcer as a foil to Llanusa and Tatum has great potential.

If Sherri turns it around and add the players needed to compete with the national elites. I'll be the first to laud her recruiting. IF She lands a mobile athletic 4/5s. No one will be more
excited and pump up the recruiting success.
Conversely, will you be criticize her if the class falls way short of filling the roster spots needed?

Abi had one good year. Vivi is good, but not great.

We've had Courtney and that was really it.

We need someone closer to Courtney and above Vivi.

We need a Leah or a Carli.

Lack of quality bigs at the 5 and 4 has been killing this team since Courtney left.

Syb, you're wrong, as usual.

I don't see that atlanta is being negative, it just seems as if he/she's stating facts, maybe a little critical if anything. I think this is getting way too personal here. Nobody should ever take direct shots at another person on here. It is ok to disagree with someone after all! If you have to block a certain person because you cannot accept their opinion, maybe you should not be on this forum, not everybody is always going to agree.
The fact remains we are lacking some talented bigs. I'm worried myself that we don't have more than two big girls and feel like SC put all her eggs in the Mulkey basket WAY too soon (I never thought she was that impressive myself). I hope SC can get two quality athletic big girls to commit with this next class to complement our talented incoming point guards!
I agree with the statements that Taylor and Jessi don't appear to be as talented in the videos that i've seen as some of our other guards we've had in the past, but hopefully they will develop once they start competing against better competition, maybe SC sees potential. Taylor does appear to be a Wyatt type of player, which is a consistent perimeter threat if she has time to set up her shot, but not a game changer, which we need, hopefully Ana is that.
Does anybody know which big girls we are chasing after in this 2018 class?

I'm not sure about this class, but I know we are going hard after Laeticia Amihere of Canada for 2019. Ranked the #2 overall player by espn. She's an ultra athletic 4. We are also After Kennedy Brown of Derby Kansas in 2019, a top 20 player. She's 6'5-6'6 center who is physical but has a perimeter shot as well. Derby is the hometown of Joanna Mcfarland. Hopefully that will help.

I think Simpson is going to get tons of playing time next season. From what Little i have seen of her she has the tools we need down low.

If EJ was going to be an answer she would have gotten more time last year because Mulkey was a dud.

I think Sherri has picked up some great guards. But you can't win games when everyone on the floor is 5-9 and shorter.

You all are going to roll over if we land two more 5'9 5'11 guards/wings which I hope and believe we are close. I know your saying more guards. But these two are players. Not role players like a coupe in this current class. Every team has those but I agree 6'2 kids or better are all that OU should be looking at it's a head scratcher on some of these early offers to kids that don't fit that mold.

Rbeam,
the entire college basketball world wants Amihere. She'd be a possible program changer for OU. Trae Young/Blake Griffin like.
Kennedy Brown also seems like an excellent center prospect.
Sadly both players are 2019 class, not 2018.

Shaina Pellington's stats in FIBA play.

.@Shainap_14 =

1⃣0⃣ points
7⃣ rebounds
2⃣ steals
2⃣0⃣ minutes https://twitter.com/CanBball/status/888758069710204928

Sherri might have grabbed a legit under ranked steal in Pellington. A dose of controlled elite athleticism ala
DRob would be awesome. (i'm sorry if that post is too positive).
