We have a new verbal commitment

the only real hope with Amihere is some undocumented connection between Amihere and Pellington based on their FIBA Canada team experiences.
I say undocumented only because i've never seen a quote from Amihere that indicates she wants to follow Pellington.
otherwise, you'd expect a top five talent like this to not step foot in Norman for a visit. That's the trend line.

The best two players in the border war game both visited OU, one signing with OU.

We are one of thirteen schools Amihere listed as schools in which she had an interest.

OU's final prospects appear to be (barring a surprise):

Tatum Veitenheimer, 5-7 to 5-10, Windthorst, TX---commit
Madison Williams, 6-2, Fort Worth Trinity Valley---commit

Rokia Doumbia, 5-8 to 5-10, Bradenton IMG Academy, FL
Visits confirmed:
Arkansas 9/8
Vanderbilt 9/22
Oklahoma 10/6
TCU 10/13
fifth visit to be determined

Yo'Myris Morris, 6-1 or 6-2, North Little Rock, AR

Abi had one good year. Vivi is good, but not great.

We've had Courtney and that was really it.

We need someone closer to Courtney and above Vivi.

We need a Leah or a Carli.

Lack of quality bigs at the 5 and 4 has been killing this team since Courtney left.

Syb, you're wrong, as usual.

Just curious, you are not relating Vivi to Leah and Carli are you and you do realize that Carli did not start a complete year, well not her senior year, and I do not think before.
Actually, last year I was disappointed in Vivi but that was the first year I have been. But really, the team was a disappointment, so I could see that affecting her. I am not there but I think she has the smarts and the will to work but not the basketball experience, she needs someone to develop what she has. Now just as I see it and I could be wrong, but I have seen very few players develop since I started watching in 2002. I didn't see Courtney get better. Maybe I am not seeing things others are seeing but that is always my frustration, players not getting better or regressing or just having spurts of good play. It has been a few years since we have gotten great, athletic players; so I just do not expect it. We are not going to be able to recruit the number one or number two post........doubt we could recruit the number 25. It seems to me until we get someone like the Paris twins who will bring in other players, we are not going to be getting top players. It is no longer fun for me to watch. If I saw improvement, even if the teams weren't better than they are now, I would still enjoy watching. But I may be expecting too much, plus a lot I do not know about the mechanics of the game. I know the rules, see people make mistakes but I know there are things that miss. Not really complaining, it is a game and there a lot more important things in the world. Just posting about the team and my take.

He's right. Stoops loyalty to staff that wasnt recruiting finally forced him to replace them. We're still working out from under that hiatus. It takes a while.

I didn't think it was the players, except we were lacking at the qb position for a few years; I thought it was the coaching. Especially the defensive coaching. I guess our offensive line was up and down for a few years. That may have been the recruiting. JMO Also, I don't think Heupel did a good job but again, that could have been our line going up and down and our lack of a really good qb.

Finally, bringing Mike Stoops back and letting Venables go was not a great move as far as coaching. I do not know about recruiting. And really that is a gut feeling. I used to be a big football fan but now I hate it, still guiltily watch some OU and OSU.

I think the era of the #1 or 2 post who is so dominant is over. Women's basketball has grown past the era of Anne Donovan, which I thought we had when we got Courtney. But, it takes a lot more. The top teams have good posts. But, they are in the Final Four because of good players at all positions and, very simply, the ability to score. Even with Griner and a host of other top recruits, Baylor won one when they thought they might win four.

I think Vivi has improved quite a bit. But, those around her haven't. If anything, it was the worst year for some of the seniors last year. I think there is still an upside to Manning. I don't know if there is a higher plane for Gabby.

I am encouraged when I look at what is coming in. I think that there is a lot of upside to Mandy Simpson and Shaina Pellington, and Ana is pretty much ready to participate with a quality team. The commits fascinate me in that I think Lampkin, Veitenheimer, and Williams have an upside. Lampkin has not yet begun to reach her pinnacle. I like what I see of the potential of others.

I always remind myself of the line of Doug English, all-pro defensive tackle from Texas when he said (paraphrased), "a blue-chipper is a guy who started shaving at fourteen and is as good as he'll ever get at sixteen." The superstar is still undeveloped. It may be a bit different for women. But, I think finding kids who have an upside is more important than finding an all-stater. Who will grow up in college?

Who will grow up in college?

I remember Barry Switzer saying that the single most difficult thing about recruiting. Looking at players at age 15, 16 or 17 and determining which ones have hit their ceiling and which ones will continue to get better.

Nicely said, Sybarite! I agree that there are no dominant posts, there are good ones and not so good ones. If you all can remember, the Paris twins weren't even ranked in the top 20 overall players coming out of highschool their senior years, at least not by HoopGurlz. If memory serves correct, Courtney was like #24 or so. She was great her freshman year, but did not improve unfortunately. But that being said, she really didn't need to improve a whole lot. Ashley Paris on the other hand did improve a lot. This last senior class that graduated simply disappointed me...I had such high hopes for Gioya Carter and how good she would get. It seems like her sophomore year she improved greatly and then took a dip. Peyton Little, I believe, stayed at the same level all three years we had her. I actually felt that Tiny and Wyatt improved, but then also took dips due to personal events. I wish that Wyatt had been redshirted her freshman year so we would have her this year. I really think she would have been much better given one more season to actually play. All of this being said, I am excited about the potential for these incoming players. I feel Ana, Lampkin, Williams and Tatum could all be amazing players and bring our program to a whole other level. Especially looking at Lampkin play! Dang that girl looks like she could dominate! Kind of reminds me of South Carolina's forward, very athletic big that can take over the game. Let's hope that history does not repeat itself, and that all of the players from here on out improve on a consistent basis. I hope our seniors give it all they've got and we have at least a 25 win season this year - Here's to hoping!!

Since 2009, there have been a number of good/ great post players, OU just hasn't been able to sign one...

It's just my opinion, but I think Leah and Carli, whether they were starters or not, were both better than Vivi as all around players, especially Leah.

It probably isn't a fair comparison, but both Leah and Carli played with such passion, desire and effort -- at a level that only Vivi on this team seems to be able to get close to achieving.

Like everyone else, I have great hopes for the new girls coming in. I too expect most of them to start or play a lot from the get go. There's not that much in front of them, in my opinion, that would keep them off the court.

Let's assume that our knowledge of commitments is accurate:

Roster: 2018-2019
6-4 Sr Ijeoma Odimgbe
6-0 Soph Mandy Simpson
6-0 Soph Ana Llanusa
5-10 Soph (?) Morgan Rich
5-9 Sr Gileysa Penzo
5-7 Soph Shaina Pellington

6-5 Fr Aspen Williston
6-3 Fr Nydia Lampkin
6-1 Fr Madison Williams
5-9 Fr Taylor Robertson
5-8 Fr Tatum Veitenheimer
5-7 Fr Jessica Murcer

Apparently, we are still involved with recruiting four.

When did Aspen Williston commit to OU? The only thing that I have seen is she is committed to OSU.

I think OU will only take 6, if Sherri takes any more it could require some roster shakeups...

With 6 in the 18 class we would have 12 on next year's roster with 5 slots open for the next two classes (if nobody transfers). So for 18 to use one of those slots you would have to think it would only be for someone you thought was truly outstanding. Doumbia I think fits that description.

Our loss of both recruits may well cause us to recruit one or two more than we normally might. As I understand, Burrell and Doumbia were both here. Morris is due in for a visit. The other is a 2019 who might well be eligible in 2018-2019---foreign players have different academic backgrounds, the reason we originally thought Doumbia was a 2019.

Of our nine (ten on scholarship) who are active this year, we lose four.
