in order to make it to the NIT? Many of you have the Sooners sitting in the 7-10 spot in the Big 12 rankings which is historically usually good enough to go to the NIT (7th or 8th should be a shoe-in).

So how many wins does this team need to get during the noncon in order to make it to the NIT, and imo set up for a big 2011-12 run?

NonCon Schedule:

11/12/10 vs. Coppin State
11/15/10 vs. North Carolina Central
11/18/10 vs. Texas Southern

EA SPORTS Maui Invitational
11/22/10 vs. Kentucky
11/23/10 vs. Virginia or Washington
11/24/10 TBD

12/01/10 at Arkansas TV
12/05/10 at Arizona TV
12/09/10 vs. Gardner-Webb
12/11/10 vs. Oral Roberts

All-College Classic
12/18/10 vs. Cincinnati

12/21/10 vs. Sacramento State
12/30/10 vs. Central Arkansas
01/03/11 vs. Maryland Eastern Shore

My take: I think the Sooners need to go 11-3 in order to ensure an NIT birth for next season. Win out at home = 8 wins, win two in Hawaii (Virginia and WSU/UCONN), and then take one of the three other games (ex Cincy in OKC).

10-4 will probably do the trick, but I think 11-3 gets the job done for sure. That would allow us to finish 7-9 in conference and hit the 18 win mark going into Big 12 play where hopefully we can pick up number 19.

I think they just need to avoid bad losses, such as Texas Southern and Oral Roberts. They will probably lose 2 in Maui.

The tough games this year are:

Kentucky
Virginia/Washington
Texas Southern
Oral Roberts
Cincy

Win 3 of those and you are in great shape.

NIT? I am not writing off the NCAA tournament just yet.

First things first. Let's get enough noncon wins to get in the NIT. My 11-3 will work just fine for the dance when we shock the nation by going 9-7 in conference! :woot

Central Arkansas is where Drew "Mountain Drew" Haymaker out of Edmond Santa Fe went. The guy who was touted as the next Shaq in 7th grade when he was like 6'7", or something.

I think he transferred out of there pretty quick, as he couldn't cut it at that level.

Lets just win Maui, go undefeated in the non conference, and then 13-3 in conference, win the conference tourney, and get a 1 seed

Honestly if we go 7-9 in the conference next year I would be perfectly fine with that. Obviously we don't know a whole lot about our team, but my expectations are very low after last season.

I've been drinking the Kool-aid rather heavily recently but I think this is a dream scenario for a successful non con. 11-3. Lets do it boys.

NIT???? Expectations have fallen for the OU basketball program.

I don't like any more than you do, but it is what it is and making it to at least the NIT this year would be fantastic for this program.

That is a very sad comment about the state of OU basketball. It is probably appropriate but OU fans should not be debating about what needs to be done to make the NIT. That is for CU or Nebraska fans.

I never say what would it take to get to the NIT. IF we want to go to the NCAA, we need to sweep at home since we play no one, beat Cincy and win one between Arkansas and Arizona. That would put us in good shape. I assume we will lose 2 in Maui.

Oh I agree, but we have to play the hand we are dealt this year, and to me, that hand involves us getting back to some sort of postseason play this year and then using that momentum to set us up for a good run in 2011 (ala Baylor of 2008 and 2009).

I don't like it any more than you do, denver.
