I'm no coach, but it might be that Kruger has a very specific reason for this -- shaking up one player's approach/habits or the other -- and that it will be only temporary.
If, say, a point guard was consistently passing up too many open shots, a coach might switch him to the 2, just to jump-start his shooter's mentality. Or a shooting guard might need to focus on his handles and/or his passing.
I could be all wet, of course. It just occurs to me that there could be a method to Kruger's madness in this case, a specific objective he's pursuing, and that it will be short-lived, once it's achieved its purpose.
Or not.
