I havent been around long enough to know....for wins and losses, what is the biggest turnaround in a one year period?

Last year we were 14-18
If we can turn this around and be 19-13 how would that stack up in OU's history in terms of turnaround

After a quick look at Soonerstats.

1981 to 1982

1981 9-18. Tubbs' first year
1982 22-11.

Probably the two best that I can think of were (A) when Tubbs' second OU team went 22-11, after going 9-18 in '80-81; and (B) when Bliss' second OU team went 18-10 after going 9-17 in '76. Kelvin almost trumped that in his first year by going from 15-13 in '94 to 23-9 in '95.

Bruce Drake once followed an 11 win season with a 24 win season. That's the only one that's as good as Tubbs first to second year. MacLeod followed a 7 win season with a 19 win season.

1982 22-11. Some guy named Wayman Tisdale showed up.

so your saying all we need is for Ro to be as good as Wayman and we are set?

Apparently not even that good as when I looked at the roster for that team I wasn't paying attention and apparently that William was the Tisdale on it. Wayman came in 83.

You realize, of course, that Capel was horrible at judging talent? If that's true, as many would have you believe, Romero will not only not be as good as Wayman, but quite likely will be less talented than Nick Thompson.

Except that every player that has played with him has said he is good. Grooms even mentioned him, when he came in for his visit and Ro was the only player that Kruger specifically mentioned after their first practice. Just because Capel had plenty of duds, doesn't mean he didn't occasionally get one right.

My point, exactly (I guess I should have used the "sarcasm" icon).

82 team's win total padded a bit by an NIT Final Four run.

I dont see that as a problem. They were good enough to make it to the NIT final four. After the last two years I would be happy as hell with an NIT Final Four next year

why defend the worst coach at OU in the last 30 or so years? Capel sucked, he is gone and the program is better off. The guy didn't recruit well. He didn't coach from the bench well. He didn't have a system. He didn't comply with the NCAA rules well. He didn't do anything well other than people that met him seemed to like him.

I'm not defending Capel as much as I'm questioning the sincerity of those who will do anything – including speaking out both sides of their mouth – to bash the guy. Capel is gone and we've got a new coach. Is it really necessary to make every thread an indictment of our former coach?

Um, no one mentioned Jeff Capel in this thread until you brought him up.

With which rules did he not comply?

Touché! Maybe I should have said 99 out of 100 threads. The point is still valid.

Is it? Most posters are trying to move on. There are a small number from both sides that can't let it go. The rest of us would like to just worry about recruiting and preparing for next year.

Hey, I totally agree, boksooner. I called Kruger a "homerun" hire the day he was named OU coach, and I've only got more excited as the days and weeks passed. Capel is gone and I wish him well in whichever direction life takes him. But if you would like to go back and review all the threads from the last couple of weeks, I believe you might rethink your "both sides" comment.

Why would I care? Move on and stop beating a dead horse. Capel doesn't need you whiteknighting for him in every thread. Let. It. Go.
