If healthy? Kelvin's team.

By the way, that should be Ace starting at PF.

PG - Even
SG - Price
SG - I am going with Hield
PF - Bookout but not by much
C - Thomas

Honestly, I think if Thomas is eligible, the current team will win.

Bottom one. Defense and rebounding. Defense and rebounding.

IF we get Tashawn Thomas and IF we can defend the perimeter, I think we have a chance to be as good as that team.

This year's team is better offensively. But that year's team really knew how to play on both ends of the floor.

How about this one!

Head Coach: Lon Kruger
PG: Jordan Woodard
SG: Isaiah Cousins
SG: Buddy Hield
PF: Ryan Spangler
PF: Tashawn Thomas

Head Coach: Jeff Capel
PG: Austin Johnson
SG: Willie Warren
SF: Tony Crocker
PF: Taylor Griffin
PF: Blake Griffin

This year's team is better offensively.

Is it though?

Hollis and Ace were two of the better offensive players in the country towards the end of that season. White was a bit limited, but was VERY efficient. Brown wasn't much of a threat, but certainly didn't hurt. Ere was kind of the X factor. When healthy, he was Hield's equal, in my opinion.

Heck, that was probably Kelvin's best offensive team in his time at OU.

Ken Pom Offensive Rank

2002/03 team - 17 offensively
2013/14 team - 16 offensively

I would guess we're better this year with Thomas and improved guards.

Cousins and Hield are efficient (more than Hollis and Ebi by the numbers).
Quannas probably gets the edge over Woodard in efficiency.
Thomas and Ace were comparable
Spangler is a better offensive player than Brown was

When you add Booker coming off the bench, our guard corps should be better offensively this year.

HOWEVER, Ebi and Quannas and Hollis were clutch offensively, far more than any of our current players has shown. When you factor in defense, which was heavily in favor of the 2002 team...

I don't think you can compare their rankings from each year, against each other.

I don't think I've renewed my Ken Pom subscription, but was their some kind of offensive efficiency number given for each team? Comparing those is probably the way to go. Just curious what that would show/tell us.

Just looked it up.

2002 - 112.7
2014 - 116.3

Interesting. I still think I'd take Kelvin's crew based on Hollis and the way Ace played that season, but any difference is probably pretty negligible, in actuality.

Defensive efficiencies:

2002 - 89.3
2014 - 100.6

Lower is better here. Like you said pnk, D is where I think the 2002 team would have topped the 2014 team.

I think abd included Bookout for a reason. He was wanting to compare this team to the 2003 team. As good as the 2003 team was, they REALLY had trouble finding the hoop at times.

So that's where the comparison takes place. An offensively swift team (2015) compared to a tenacious defensive team (2003)? I think it comes down to what the officiating allows you to get away with. If they call the ticky-tack stuff then 2015 wins it at the free-throw line. If it's "hide the women and children" then 2003 wins it 55-52.

Give me Sampson's team. But the one with McGhee, not the one with the Bookout.

Man, that would be incredible to watch those teams, including Capel's Blake Griffin squad, go up against each other in their prime.

With Thomas, I think this team could be better than the 2002-03 team with Bookout. I don't think they match-up well with the 2001-02 team with Ace. The 02 team was much better defensively and at least as good offensively. The 03 team, without Ace and with Ere's shooting struggles, was not very good offensively.

Correct, 2003.

Depends. Is it a postseason game.....? :troll

We did get ticky tack calls in the final four. Ace got into foul trouble early and that really hurt.

Let's wait to see what this team does before we make the call as to which team is better. There's a chance these guys take a leap forward, and the answer may become much more clear. I hope so.

I agree. There is a chance Woodard is better than White. Woodard was darn good as a true freshman. If he makes s similar leap as Cousins and Hield, he is going to be very good. Spangler has a chance to make a major improvement too. Last year was his first chance to get major minutes.

Interesting that you guys did not discuss the benches. I am hoping Booker is going to be huge off the bench this year.
