We both will only play one year where we are...

I will only play one year where I am. And my averages are-
11.4 ppg
.459 FG%
6.7 rpg
0.8 apg
2.9 bpg

I will also only play one year where I am. And my averages are-
10.6 ppg
.530 FG%
5.8 rpg
1.5 apg
1.5 bpg

Once you guess the answer to both...you will see what I'm alluding to...

Miles Turner and Tashawn?

Yep. This is why I don't understand people who say "why did we waste a scholarship on Thomas?" It's pretty much like getting a 1 and done. We actually are getting a better player in my opinion...because his experience keeps him from making bad decisions and take smarter shots leading to a higher FG%. To me Tashawn is the equivalent to a HIGH 4* recruit that ends up a 1 and done.

Who is saying we wasted a scholarship on Thomas? We had one available. It's not like it prevented us from getting someone else.
Now if he wouldn't have gotten eligible this season, that argument would at least make sense.

Oh during the Ostate game someone posted a thread talking about that. It just amazes me.

Who says that? The Internet gives a voice to every idiot in the world.

Thomas is FAR from a wasted scholarship. I also saw some folks posting about him being a disappointed, and I just don't get it either. At times hes been our best player, and he is probably as consistent (or tied with Buddy) of an offensive player as we have. I love Thomas' game, and he has stepped in and been exactly what we needed. I sometimes sit back and just thank God for dropping him in our laps, because we are a MUCH better team with him. I don't even want to think about where we could be right now without him.

All that being said, Turner is a better player. Better size, better athleticism, slightly better handles, has a lot more range, and alters more shots on the defensive end. Their numbers may look similar, but lets not kid ourselves... I'd trade Thomas for Turner straight up in a heart beat.

If Thomas ha a .40 FG% and wasn't starting...that would be a disappointment. 11 pts and 6 Rebs while averaging .53FG% is EXACTLY what we needed. When we need to we are able to give it to Thomas and he can get us a basket down low to pull the pressure off the perimeter. I think he's done exactly what we've needed him to do. I don't understand what people expected? 17 and 10? He wasn't even averaging that at Houston...against subpar competition... To me he's adjusted MAGNIFICENTLY to big 12 competition. He's a perfect 1 and done! I've been extremely happy with him and he fit like a missing puzzle piece with this team.

Someone is kidding themselves. Thomas as a senior gives OU a much higher ceiling than Turner as a freshman would.

I wouldnt trade him for Turner... Both are rentals. Thomas will continue to get better for us as the year goes on...

+1....don't know how anyone would choose Turner who is extremely inexperience and underdevoped(even NBA scouts think so). He has AMAZING upside and if you could keep each for 4 years id take turner without question. But that's not the question...it's who would you take THIS SEASON. And to me there's no question when evaluating experience and decision making and shot selection. Thomas knows his limits and knows his strengths and stays with them. Turner is still shooting 3s and making bad decisions. Thomas no question.

For this year alone I would take Thomas no question. Turner would give us a rim protector and a slightly better rebounder but that's it. Turner is also foul prone which would make OU have to use their thin bench even more. Also the maturity and balance he brings cannot be overlooked which is vital to this team.

I have literally not heard or seen one person think this

Then you've not read the thread I posted a link to just eight posts up. It includes the most overt statement against Thomas, but there have been other posts talking about what a disappointment he's been.

Nice post, jackson_suipersooner! I'm glad you made that comparison.

I doubt if anyone seriously questions the use of a scholarship on Thomas. I know the OP of the thread Skyvue posted a link to, and he is too basketball savvy to believe that to be true. I also know that his post was a spur of the moment reaction to the first half of a game when TaShawn wasn't playing well.

Having said that, there have indeed been a number of posts that expressed various degrees of disappointment with Thomas. I am definitely not one of them! I couldn't be happier with what he has brought to the team this season. Sure, he could play better at times, and I would like for him to be aggressive on a consistent basis. But, I don't even want to think about where we would be if he had not been eligible this season.

Ada, your observations provide a heck of a good argument that some of us should never, ever post when we're angry and having a "spur of the moment" reaction. I'm sure the OP you referred to above is, as you stated, very "basketball savvy." But that statement made him/her look anything but.

Oh, well, I've also made plenty of ill-conceived statements during my time on this message board. So I guess we all deserve an occasional pass.
