I broached this subject in a post on another thread, so I thought it deserved it's own thread.

Including the girls coming in (although we really don't know what they might add), I'd like to discuss who everyone thinks is the best overall player on the team right now and next season -- the person, like Whitney, that means the most to the outcome of every game.

I am going with Morgan. She isn't the best player but she is our best point guard. In my opinion, that is the most important position on the court and to have someone as solid as Morgan is will be huge. Morgan isn't flashy, won't score a bunch of points, isn't the best defender, but she is a player and she can be trusted most of the time to run the offense. Let me put it this way, without Morgan, I think most of us would have a very uneasy feeling in the pit of our stomachs.

Looking at the post season banquet awards, I'd say it's Aaryn by a large margin.

Great question by the OP ... if I were an opposing coach, my foremost concern might be with Vegas. I think if you limit her, then you've got a strong chance to compete with OU. If she gets going, she is one of a few players that can take over a game for us. For that, I'd say Vegas ... but we've got a handful of players who are important - Hook and Campbell come to mind immediately.:OU-logo:

I don't think you could go wrong is you said Campbell. I'd imagine from past performances we could go with Vegas though.

I always have a soft spot for kids that leave every thing on the floor night in and night out. Sharane is my pick, with Morgan and Aaryn a close second.

I believe as Roc does. It's very close.

But you combine everything that a player need to possess, I'd give Sharane a slight edge because she is the entire package.

AE I think is mostly offense. Morgan, if she would score more, I think might edge Sharane out to me, but it would be very, very close.

Morgan and Sharane have a different type of intensity on the floor, but I think they are two most intense, battling players we have. Both are tough and smart.

I'm going to wait until AFTER the season to make a choice. Right now, I can see those who think it is Vegas. She is THE shooter. But, Griffin is THE shot blocker. Morgan is THE person who brings the ball up. Sharane is THE driver. MVP?

Definitely Aaryn or Hook. Vegas is our go to person, and Morgan is the brains on the court.

I agree with this the team struggled the most last year when Hook was not on the floor or Vegas was not hitting. Not sure that makes them the BEST player but perhaps the most important.

Hard to argue with everyone's logic, but Nicole doubled her points per game from her Soph to her Junior year and improved her shot blocking and rebounding. She may not be the best player, but I sure hope she takes another very positive step forward.

We are sure going to miss Joanna.

Not disagreeing with you but do you think that has more to do with the player herself or the fact that our best PG wasn't playing?

Let's just put it this way: I was not amazed at what ANY of our players did on the court this year except for Aaryn. When she's on, there's no one that can stop her. Fortunately, she was "on" most nights.

Do you think the team struggled because it was Morgan herself that wasn't out there or because the PG position in general was weaker?

I think he meant, when Morgan was not on the court. #butIcouldbewrong#
