I am warming up to the idea of Marshall. Not at the top of my list. But does not look like he would be a disaster.

I highly doubt he'd be a disaster as well (& FWIW, I'm a 30 year, born in Wichita, fan as well so I've done my fair share of watching them to say the least). There are 2 things that have struck me about him:

1. He can recruit. Now, how he'd do with that at a major school, I don't know. He's never been at one. Fact is though, from a personnel standpoint, WSU was the hands down best team in the Valley this year. They are very balanced, & go 9 deep with guys who are capable of getting double digits on any given night, which leads me to:

2. Some of the X's & O's I've seen drawn up this year (& in previous seasons for that matter) have left me scratching my head. They lost 4 games at Koch this year, which, with the roster they have, coupled with the atmosphere advantage they enjoy (if you've never been to a game there, let me just say that Koch gets extremely loud on a pretty consistent basis) was disappointing, if not inexcusable. I will give him a pass on the VCU loss, as there was a very questionable foul at the end.

IMO, the guy in the B12 that I see the most of in Marshall is Scott Drew (strong recruiter, average on the sideline) although I will say that I think he's stronger in the strategy department.

Looking back at his years as a coach, He dominated his conference when he was in the Big South, taking his team to the ncaa tournament 7 out of 9 years. He has taken WSU to post season play 3 out of 4 years. His teams look very well coached to me. In 2000 OU faced Winthrop and won 74-50.

BOK he is nothing like Scott Drew, I could outcoach Scott Drew. Scott Drew maybe the worst coach in America.

that's a good comparison. also wears his religion on his sleeve a bit. teams play hard more consistently though, and he seems a bit more abrasive in how he handles himself.

How do you figure Scott Drew and Gregg Marshall are a good comparison, Scott Drew could not coach his way out of a wet paper sack, hell he prolly could not teach someone to guard someone in a phone booth. Jeff Capel owned Scott Drew.

Not sure Joe C. is in the position to be telling competent coaches he is "not interested".

Johnny Jones and Marshall have been my two from the get-go, even touted Marshall before Capel was fired. The splash hire is not going to happen, imo. Both guys have ran competent programs over their careers, they deserve a healthy look.

Just don't see why people are so turned off by them.

I think I might not have done a good job in saying what I was trying to. The point of my post was simply that both coaches' strongest points lie in their recruiting. Given equal talent at their disposal, I'd take GM all day long when it comes to strategy.

I'm not opposed to Marshall but I like Johnny Jones a lot more, personally. My only concern is that the Sun Belt is so bad it would be a huge step up.
