Self is 49. Wikipedia lists him as having 467 wins. If he coaches until he is 70 he is going to have well over 900 wins at the rate he is going at KU.

He might but I kind of doubt that happens. At KU he is averaging over 29 wins per season and I think he will do better than that this year. KU has 26 wins on the season. If he makes the Big XII finals KU will have 28 wins and if he wins it 29. If he makes the great 8 and wins the Big XII Tournament, KU will have 31 wins on the season. What he is doing at KU is pretty amazing. He has dominated the conference. His worst finish in 10 seasons is tied for second. He won the regular season the other 9 years.

He won't coach as long as some of the others. Coaches who make it big early (Self, Stoops, etc.) don't need the money later on and will give it up earlier in life than Knight and Coach K's generation. The deaths and medical hardships of coaches like Skip Prosser will weigh heavily on this generation.

I agree. He won't coach long enough to do it. If he goes to OSU he'll win there. He wins wherever he goes.

I don't think anybody can say whether he will or will not coach until he is 60, 70 or if he will retire after next season (although I seriously doubt he retires in the next 5-10 years). Money certainly will not be the issue but he might like it or he might be motivated to set a record. If I had all the money in the world, I don't know that I would retire becasue I don't know what I would do all day.

If he coaches until he is 70 and continues to win 29 games a season, he will have well over 1,000 wins. I am pretty sure his 467 wins is based on last season. That means he will be darn close to 500 after this season. At 29 a year he will have over 1,100 wins if he does another 21 seasons.

Coach K doesn't still coach because he needs money.

Coach K is from a prior generation, this crop of coaches will not go at it as long. Josh Pastner isn't coaching until he is 70.

You don't know this to be a fact. You are simply making an assumption. You may be correct but unless you actually know Bill Self you don't know what motivates him. Most athletes and successful people are competitive. Self is both an athlete and highly successful. I think there is a reasonable chance he has set some pretty big goals for himself.
