Winding road brings PG Darrion Strong to OU

Wow
He already has the OU work ethic in the gym. He needs to now bring it to his academics.

I have a feeling OU is getting one heck of a player and a fine young man in Darrion Strong. Everything I read about him in this article tells me he's a winner, from his no-quit attitude to the time he spends in the gym working on his game. Don't be surprised if he gives Jordan a run for his money next season.

I like the work ethic. The issues in the classroom seem to be a persistent issue. Hopefully the aid of one of the very best academic support staffs in the country will help him with any class work issues. Usually hard workers are also good students.

Derrick Rose with a jump shot sounds pretty good too.

If you mean he will push me fellow Edmond Bulldog (did Woodard attend Memorial?) and make afine backup I agree. However, I don't think he will start. Not many guys have 90+ starts heading into a senior season and evn less have it PG.

That's exactly what I mean. While it's highly unlikely a JUCO transfer would replace a senior who has started every game since his freshman season, Strong appears to be the type of young man who will refuse to give in to that idea. If he can push Jordan for the starting spot next year, I see that as a good thing. Competition for playing time or the right to start makes everyone better.

If he plays good defense, he should get a lot of time. This guy has a very complete offensive game.

If he qualifies from JUCO and then is willing to work hard on academics when he gets here, he'll do fine. Most OU professors won't fail a kid who they feel is legitimately trying.

Say what, no really, you didn't just say that teachers at OU will pass students athletes for trying! What is this, North Carolina :facepalm

As a professor who previously taught at OU, can I just say that we don't fail students; students fail themselves. LOL.

Sounds to me like Strong is a combo scoring guard more than a PG. He will be working to get Buddy's minutes after he's gone more than Jordan IMO.

I disagree. Have you watched his videos? He only plays PG in his juco highlights. There aren't many 6' wings.... I think he would get abused defensively. Of course it's JMHO too.

I agree, I think he'll be closer to Pierre Jackson than dinjyl Walker

Didn't watch video. Just saw he scored 21 PPG and only had 2 APG. Talked up his shooting skills, not floor general skills.

LK likes him and committed him very early so I think he can play.

This matters to me a lot more than recruiting rankings. When the coaching staff likes Strong or Doolittle early, to me it says a lot more than a recruiting service saying some kid is a rated 100-200.

With Doolittle, if I recall correctly OU was on him well before he got much notable attention from the recruiting service.

They do this everywhere, including the best schools. It's basically impossible to fail out of an ivy league school, because they're not in the business of taking people's tuition money and kicking them otu. If you show up and do your work, you're getting a C, and employers know that. That's what "weed out" classes are for. They get people out of the tougher and competitive majors. This isn't an OU thing, or an athlete thing.
