When the season started I though we upgraded with a guard that could actually create a shot and finish.Little did I know Woodard would take two steps back this season.

Hornbeak wasn't a scorer or the best in transition , but he was no worse in a half court offense then Woodard. Secondly he was a much better defender and much better against pressure .

I really feel for Woodard and im not giving up. I remember last season he was bench and he seemed to get out of his funk.

Im surprised, I just knew he would come out this season and take a huge step foward and become one of the best PGs in the league.

Im not trying to pile on the poor kid, just asking a fair question. With his struggles the last few games Im starting to feel like we got the short end of the stick with the walker/hornbeak swap.

Actually a rumor out there was that Hornbeak transferred because he thought he was better than Woodard, but wouldn't get a chance. I repeat this was rumored.

My memory isn't the best, but weren't there several games at the end of the season last year where Hornbeak was in the game over Woodard at the end?

You are correct, but i think that had more to do with in late game situations, Hornbeak was the better free throw shooter.

Woodard appears to be going through the same type of sophomore slump that Hornbreak went through. Most of Hornbeak's troubles, best I can remember, began after suffering a concussion early in the season.

I'm not the guy to ever say a bad word about Hornbeak. Dude hit a huge trey in the final minute to beat Kansas his freshman year, so he walks the avenue of heroes in my world.

He was also the better defender, which is also why he was in the games late.

We could really use Beak right now, but before we get too crazy on him he did transfer to Monmouth.

He was the better player, IMO. Not by much, but he was better. I felt that he brought more to the table last year, and was pretty disappointed when he transferred. I also heard the rumor that he left because he felt that he was better than Woodard. But as mentioned above, that is only a rumor, with no really legit sources..

I heard it from a fellow student that "had a class with him", yet this student also said that Hornbeak never went to class... So as you can see, I am also pretty skeptical of the rumor, yet it would make sense. :facepalm

I guarantee if Woodard elected to transfer right now, he'd end up somewhere better than Monmouth.

I heard the same from a player on the team.

Agree 100%. Seems like a good kid, but he isn't a high level D1 PG (at this time). I guess there is some potential for him to significantly improve, but IMO, he needs to get in much better shape. He looks slow, with or without the ball, and that causes a lot of his problems. His shooting, I'm not as worried about as others, except for the fact that I don't think he should be in the game on the last possession of the game when we need a basket.

It is becoming more and more obvious why we were his only real high level offer...:facepalm

Hornbeak wouldn't get that shot and that's why he transferred. I'm not sure why Lon has stuck with Woodard for so long. There were many times last year that I thought Hornbeak should have played or started over Woodard. A PG that doesn't setup his teammates, turns the ball over, and can't shoot is not a PG that I want starting on my team.

Lots of players go through Sophomore Slumps. Remember Stacey King as a Freshman and Sophomore?

Well whether sophomore slumps, juniors etc. We have 5 guards now and not one is strong with the ball in press situations, thus our best inside threat brings the ball up.

Cam Clark is probably an even better example. He couldn't buy a three point his sophomore year. It was so bad he only took one his junior season.

Monmouth played West Virginia in Morgantown a lot better than we did. They even led at the half by 5. lol

That was the first game of the season. I suspect WVU is a tad bit better at their new defense now and I doubt they took Monmouth as seriously as OU.

Additionally, Monmouth has losses to Quinnipiac, Rutgers, St. Francis (NY), Fordham, SMU, Maryland, Towson and WVU. Monmouth has beaten Bethune-Cookman, Central Conn. St. Marist, Iona, Wagner, Canisius, Niagara and Rider.

I will take OU's results over that. OU has beaten Baylor, Texas, UCLA, Butler, Missouri, Tulsa, and George Mason to name a few. I think all of those schools have better programs than the teams Monmouth has beaten. ORU is probably a better program than most of the schools Monmouth has beaten.

Beak and Woodard don't even play the same position. Yes, I know Beak played some point, but he is more of a two guard. And he wasn't likely to be better than Cousins.

Woodard handles the ball MUCH better than Beak did.
