2021/2022 Bracketology catch all ..

Re: 2021 Bracketology catch all ..

He was being facetious. For some reason he thinks only the metric of wins and losses should be used to determine the field. If ou played in these small conferences, their record would look similar to Gonzaga’s most years.

First of all, I don't really think thats true.

Second... I made a pretty good case that OU has done nearly nothing this year. Showed where the vast majority of wins came from, and that OU, despite being 14-14, is still being projected in the field because they beat Arkansas and Florida, AND because they play against and lost to a bunch of better teams. That's not inaccurate. Is it simplified? Sure. But that's the basic gist of it.

Enough already. As of Sunday, OU wasn’t projected in the field. And you also left out a couple decent wins in your post. But again, they were projected out of the field before today, and are sliding further by the game.

Kelvin doing the Lord’s work and smacking smu right now. Oregon lost last night at home. We need those in front of us to keep taking Ls. Hopefully Illinois beats Michigan. Also Memphis needs to lose today.

Memphis rolling, Michigan lost👍

Michigan goes down which should put us pretty much neck and neck. Memphis won against a terrible Wichita state team. Watching that game just reinforced how much of a grind the big12 is. Not 1 game against a team as bad as Wichita.

Dayton losing to LaSalle yesterday was beneficial as well.

The natives are restless here. They actually have good talent but have been terrible this season, and lots of fans, especially the Gregg Marshall lovers, are calling for their coach to be fired. And to your point, they aren’t even close to the worst team in that league. Tulsa and South Florida are absolutely awful. Having a handful of automatic wins in leagues like that sure makes the resume look better to people who solely evaluate teams based on record.

Minnesota beating Indiana would be ideal. About to tip off.

I was shocked (get it) to see how bad wsu is now. Absolutely brutal to watch. I watched for 10 minutes and they didn’t score. Then I turned it back 5 mins later and they still hadn’t scored! Stuck at 9 points for like 15 game minutes and it had little to do with Memphis defense.

Win 3, and we’re going to be white knuckling it. Win 4, and we will be in no question.

Agreed, win 3 and we're still going to need teams already with at-large bids locked up to win their conference tourney. If a fluke team wins a conference tourney, we're going to need that 4th win.

I disagree. Winning three straight from here would mean adding two quad 1 wins, including a win over a top 10 team (Baylor) on a neutral floor. Again, this is not going to happen so it’s all academic, but in the fantasy world where that scenario plays out, we would be in.

Also, it’s worth noting every year, but Lunardi is among the least accurate of the bracketologists.

yep all of this ..

It’s not looking good, Amigos. Just take care of business and see what happens, at this point.

To reiterate, I think we are a lock if we win the next three. Simply because it means we beat either Baylor or Tech (more likely Baylor) in KC. Needless to say that is beyond a long shot. Let’s say we win two… there are two ways we would NOT play Baylor—- Baylor loses to ISU in Waco and Tech wins in Stilly OR KU loses two of final three and Tech and Baylor both win.

My totally arbitrary take is this…

55% chance we beat WVU
20% chance we beat KSU
10% chance we would beat Baylor in KC
25% chance we would beat Tech in KC

I’m no math wizard, but if you add up all of my probabilities and account for winning all three, I’m thinking we have less than a 5% chance to get this done. The only other way I can possibly see us making it as an at large with another loss would be if we split the next two, win the play in game, and then knock off the #1 seed in KC. Beyond long shot here. So for now I’m just hoping they keep it alive game to game. Beat WVU and the game in Manhattan Sat at least matters.

Re: 2021 Bracketology catch all ..

All great points and why I love this time of year. Sometimes when is seems impossible there are surprises. Hopefully we are one of the surprise teams who get hot!

Re: 2021 Bracketology catch all ..

I think we're long overdue to go on a nice run in the conference tournament. Just from memory, I believe the last time we won as many as TWO GAMES was 2003 (YIKES! if that is true). Those early 2000s teams were really good, though. The last time an unheralded OU team went on a run just to barely sneak in the Dance was 1998 - we won 3 games, and wound up as a #10 seed. The year prior, we won 2 games and snuck in as an #11. In both years, we obviously would have been left out if we won 0 or perhaps even 1 game. Regardless, it has been way, way too long. I realize the conference is much stronger now than it was then, but let's make it happen THIS YEAR!

Re: 2021 Bracketology catch all ..

What am I missing with all the Baylor talk? Is KU not in position to be the #1 seed?

Three wins from now would be wins over WVU, KSU, and WVU again. If we beat WVU in the Big 12 Tourney, currently, we'd face KU. I'd rather face KU than Baylor, even in KC.

But KU plays TCUx2 and Texas. They win out, they are the #1 seed, and that is who we'd play, unless there are facts unknown to me.
