2025 NCAA Tourney Bracketology

Kelvin’s schedules at ou were a joke in comparison to what Moser and Lon faced the past 7-8 years. Kelvin also got beat by a worse seed in the tournament just about every year at ou. Even in the deeper runs we lost to worse seeded Syracuse and Indiana.

thanks for proving my point.
kelvin's teams were rewarded in the tournament with higher seeds because of regular season success.....not because of great talent

so losing to indiana is an indictment on kelvin? you don't agree with most people it was because of qannis' bum ankle?
losing to syracuse is an indictment on kelvin's coaching? the eventual national champion? carmello had more talent then the entire ou team combined.
talent usually reigns supreme when it comes to tournament time. some posters still believe we were better/more talented than maryland in 2002 because we beat them in norman that year.

how many nba players did kelvin coach at ou?

My point is that Kelvin’s ou teams usually lost to the better talented teams. That’s not an indictment.

But if his typical ou roster had faced 14 top ~30 teams in the regular season like ou has this year, I’m not sure even Kelvin could have squeezed enough out of them to make the tournament.

i have zero doubt kelvin would have coached this years team to the big dance.
probably a 5/6 seed

But a good coach gets the best out of the talent he has. Would anyone argue that Moser has gotten the most out of any of his Sooner teams?
The most? No, but he’s gotten OU to bubble territory 3/4 years. Given the resources at its disposal, I think that’s the best one can hope for the OU basketball program in the current environment.

Is he the right coach for OU? TBC, I’d lean no as well. Crazy the stakes of the game tonight (biggest rival, bubble, Terry on the hot seat too) not that the outcome should necessarily change anyone’s mind.

Kelvin’s teams in his first four years were on the bubble with similar talent and a much much less daunting schedule. I love Kelvin, but it’s really hard to say he would have this team any better than Porter does.

similar talent? how many lottery picks/first rounders did kelvin coach in his first 4 years? in his entire time at ou?

One player. And I take any of those centers on Kelvin’s teams plus Eduardo and that more than makes up for that one player.

Um… I hate to be the bearer of bad news but even now it’s not like Kelvin’s Houston teams are littered with NBA talent either. Great college players? Sure. Will make a living playing overseas? Probably. But very few that will ever see the league

I couldn't possibly disagree with this harder

kelvin has 4 players drafted in the last 4 years....and of course three sweet 16s...and elite eight...and final 4.... in the last 5 seasons that had a post season.
some say kelvin has gotten better as a coach which is undoubtedly true to a certain extent.
but better players overall is also a big part of his success story.

Oh, his Houston teams are undoubtedly more talented than his teams at OU. My point was/is that it’s not like he has the most talented team in the country every year and yet they are consistently a 1 or a 2 seed in the tourney. He makes the most of what he’s got and so to say that he wouldn’t do any better with this team than Moser has feels disingenuous

They would rebound better for sure. But before moving back from the NBA, his offenses would have struggled with this team.

Really? What do you disagree with? After four years people wanted to move on from Kelvin, too. For reasons listed above.
Kelvin is 10x the coach that pm wishes he could be, on pm's best night. IMO We'd have 26 or so wins with Sampson, but at worst 21-22 wins with this exact same roster

It’s pretty ridiculous that you’re essentially equating Sampson to Moser. One is one of the top 3-4 college coaches on the planet and the other is one of the worst power conference coaches in the country, yet you’re arguing Sampson wouldn’t easily have this OU team in the field?

We would rebound and defend wayyyy better under Kelvin which would go miles for this team. From 02-05 at OU, Kelvin never had a team finished ranked lower than 16th in the Kenpom defensive rating. Moser's best year in the 4 years he has been here was 38th. This year's team is currently 74th. One of the reasons Kelvin's teams are so consistent is because they don't rely on streaky scoring. Defense and rebounding transfer regardless of where you play. To act like Kelvin wouldn't have this team dancing is horribly unfair to his ability as a coach. This team is likely a 7 or an 8 seed under Kelvin's guidance. But to be fair, the team itself would look a lot different were Kelvin at the helm.

Arkansas started in a much worse position than OU during conference and it looks like they are going to play themselves into the tournament. Respect.

No real way now to finish ahead of Arkansas in the debate unless we win 3+ games from here on out. So I’d say cross them off the list and mark them down as one team for sure ahead of us come Selection Sunday.

Seems pretty simple; the game tonight will provide an absolutely wild swing in our odds. Currently we seem to be sitting JUST inside the bubble. We will move solidly in or solidly out depending on W/L.

Beat Texas and then Georgia and I think it becomes a 100% in proposition and probably even avoids play in game.

Beat Texas and lose to Georgia? That is the scenario where I am most unsure. I would guess we sneak in, but it’s probably total bubble just like previous seasons. And if we did get in I would think for sure heading to play in game. This scenario would likely be reliant on how many bid thieves pop up.
