4 seed

OU has lots of good 3-point shooters. If they got hot against that Syracuse zone, who knows.

You could say that about any defense we go against. But that Cuse zone is designed to make getting good looks out there tough. Woodard would struggle with their size. Just not a good matchup. The only thing to like about playing them is that their halfcourt offense isn't always very good either. They are crazy big inside though. Bigger than either KU or UT. Just not a matchup I'd want to see.

I agree. I would rather play somebody else.

I was in Albany in March 2003 for the Elite-8 game against that Syracuse zone. That was an outstanding OU team that was no match for that Syracuse zone. Of course, Syracuse does not have Carmelo this year.

Right now though, I just want the Sooners to focus on WVU. These lofty seed projections will go away if OU lays an egg late in the season.

Agreed.

We win the next three games (last two regular season games and 1st in the Big 12 Tourney), and we should get a seed designed to get us to the Sweet 16.

Syracuse is a piss-poor 1-seed and we shoot the three well. That's about the best you can hope for in a 4 vs 1. Wichita St. would be nice, too.

I believe one aspect that might play in our favor is that teams have zoned us a lot more this year (Baylor, Texas, Tech). Now, by no means am I comparing those team's zones to Syracuse' zone, but I think this team plays relatively well when faced with a zone. We are a good passing team and we have several guys who can operate well in the high post (Neal, Spangler). Also, as you mentioned, Syracuse really isn't a very good offensive team at all. They've struggled to score the ball in a quite a few stretches this year. When they've scored well this year, it's either off of turnovers or they were hot from 3. I don't fear Syracuse at all.

Fair enough. I wouldn't say I fear them, they are certainly beatable, but looking at the likely top 8 seeds (1's and 2's), I just see several teams I'd rather play. WSU. Duke. KU. Nova. Maybe even Zona.

Florida isn't a bad matchup, per se, I think they are just likely the best team in the NCAA, so I'd prefer to avoid them for that reason.

I agree with some of the posters above in that I dont fear the cuse at all. Florida and KU would be the big ones I'd like to avoid.

IMO, I would rather not be the 4/5 seed in the same region as Arizona or Florida....those are the only two teams I would want to avoid. Both of those teams are very good offensively and can lock you down on defense. Other than that, I think we have fairly decent matchups against teams like Wichita State, Duke, Nova, Wisconsin. Two teams I'm not sure about are Creighton and Virginia. Creighton has size, but isn't incredibly athletic....however, they've got bigs that can shoot and, not to mention, the player of the year as well. Virginia may well be the most improved team over the course of this season, but I'm just not sold on the ACC either.

A couple of lower seeded teams (probably seeded 7-11) that I would rather avoid would be Kentucky, Ohio State, Pitt, VCU, and Gonzaga. I'm not afraid of any of these teams...but they create some matchup issues on paper.
