A Marquette fan's view: You guys need to be a little more realistic

Are "clown poster", "clown post", "what a clown" and other circus insults unique to this board? I have seen so many instances of this on here lately. It could be just one poster doing it, but I haven't made any associations to anyone.

Is there an inside joke that I don't know about?!

I think unclejohn may reach a sawyer status of OUHoops.com coolness on here. :clap

I'm scared of clowns

T-61. Marquette, Big East
T-61. Navy, Patriot
T-61. New Mexico State, WAC
T-61. Utah State, WAC

Awesome.

Nice to see MU's patriotic gesture volunteering to share 61 with Navy. Color me impressed.

FWIW on attendance:

Marquette averaged about 15k fans this year. As the poster mentioned, that was tickets sold, not fans in the seats.

Last year (not this year... can't find this year's stats) OU averaged about 10k.

Marquette does have an edge (assuming most of the tickets sold showed up), but it's hardly as extreme as the original post indicates (not that you guys didn't all already know that).

I must say, though, this was one of the more enjoyable posts I've read in quite some time. Pretty hilarious, actually.

Damn...so we're getting ready to build MORE state of the art practice facilities? Cool!!!

61st? That list is garbage. I'm not saying MU is better than OU, but MU is most definitely better than 61st. They have a championship to prove it.

Also, first I'd seen (that I remember) the ESPN lists. I'd be interested in how those may be different today (77 wins, a conference tournament title, an elite eight and two other tournament appearances for Mizzou since would have to bump us up in the rankings).

I wonder if this is the reaction that Johnny expected, or if he actually thought that his vast intellect would help us all to realize that we were foolish to even dream that a coach from Marquette would leave for Oklahoma.

The ranking only goes back to the 84-85 season. Here is the explanation...

The 1984-85 season was when the NCAA tournament expanded to 64 teams, making it the first time a national champion had to win six tournament games to cut down the nets. It was also the start of the fairest inclusion in the NCAA tournament: Before that season, even the best conferences got only one team in the field. And with the introduction of the 3-point line in 1985-86, the past 24 seasons can be considered the most modern era of college basketball.

So, to rank the most consistent, most prestigious programs since 1984-85, we let the numbers do the talking.

• National title … 25
• Title game loss … 20
• National semifinal loss … 15
• Elite Eight loss … 10
• Best W-L record in conference's regular season … 5
• 30-plus wins in a season … 5
• Sweet 16 loss … 5
• Conference tournament title … 3
• AP first-team All-American … 3
• Losing in NCAA second round … 3
• Player in Top 10 of NBA draft … 2
• NCAA first-round win as a 12-16 seed … 2
• NIT title … 2
• AP second-team All-American … 2
• 20-29 wins in a season … 1
• NCAA tournament berth … 1
• Postseason NIT berth … 1
• AP third-team All-American … 1
• NCAA first-round loss to a 12-16 seed … -2
• Losing season … -3
• Ban from NCAA tournament … -3
>> Minimum 15 seasons in Division I
** Ties are broken by overall winning percentage since the 1984-85 season
^^ Teams are listed with their current conferences
!! In conferences without postseason tournament champions, the points were awarded to the regular-season champ.
